Is a six year-old really strong enough to push a car that far by himself?

I wonder if this is more evidence of Hobbes being real.

Just push the other way and you might get the car back in time!

Leaving the car in neutral was just asking for trouble. Doesn’t Mom have a son named trouble?

“Pushed by a kid and his “tiger”, seen it, covered it. Talk to Farmer’s. We know a thing or two because we’ve seen a thing or two". WE ARE FARMER’S! BUM BABABA BUM BUM BUM!

Well might your tail get bushy. The question “What could possibly go wrong?” always presages DOOM.

I love this strip, particularly Hobbes in panel two, fondling his bushy tail. It makes me laugh every time I read it.

Calvin, this is enough for Mom and Dad to pay Rosalyn to take you forever.

Seeing Calvin’s family’s car, and knowing that his father has enough of an income to allow “Mom-Lady” to be a stay-at-home mom, led me to conclude back when this was new that Dad was on the cheapskate side of the spectrum: basic hatchback (that sometimes broke down) and keeping the thermostat low for example. :-P

A friend told me how when her children were babies she put them in the car in the driveway and dashed back into the house for something she had forgotten. Came out to see the car rolling down the driveway and across the street where it stopped. No harm done. She figured her toddler had managed to realease the parking brake. She said she learned from that to never ever take safety for granted, esp around cars. She’s now a happy grandmother.

I did this. I was 15, with a learner’s permit, and I was trying to roll the car out of the carport to wash it. Rather than go in the house for the key, I managed to jam the shift out of “park” and gave the car a little push. It went down the driveway, then curved across the yard. It took out a couple of small trees and was stopped by a big one. A dent in the bumper and no other damage. I was grounded.

A year later, my mother did it herself, hitting the same tree. At that point she forgave me.

Then a few years later, this arc was published and we all had a laugh about it.

I knew this was coming. And now the car is going to crash into a tree or pole on the other side of the street.

That question reminds me of the person who asked: “Are Fred and Wilma Flinstone, stars of the TV show The Flintstones, married in real life?”

The car is barely moving, yet the tire has to be raised over the ground to indicate movement.

Must be an old junker anyway, to take it out of park without a key. The front end looks like my Dodge Omni. Yes the one with the Rabbit engine and leaking oil seals that Volkswagen recalled but Chrysler wouldn’t and the one with the first bad transmission I ever had, before and after. Good riddance, Chrysler, wherever you are.

Talk about stretching the truth for a story line. Garages are level, even if the driveway is sloped. Most cars won’t even turn off if they’re not in “Park”, and lastly – since when could a kid his size push a car? Give me a break!
