Jeez, it sounds serious already.

Okay. First things first:

1) Gunther is not telling the whole truth. He COULD have had a G/F in College, namely Tiffany if he wasn’t so Annoyingly Passively “Gunther.”

2) I’m fairly certain that MOST “folks” will dwell on the fact today that Gunther brought Les’ name up, and predictably POUND that minor detail right into the ground. Okay, I’ll admit it. I was a “mistake” on his part. Done. Now, let’s move on.

Something’s is not right here. Not quite right with Bets.

I mean, for someone who’s supposedly had a number of run-ins with Liars, and Cheaters, AND Les Knox, WHY would Bets “come on” so quickly to a total stranger like Gunther, still a relatively unknown quantity? Complimenting his hair, Comparing him to Capt. Kirk, calling him a “cutie?” Not the sign of a young woman that has been “burned” before. It just doesn’t make sense.

And Least We forget, here is a sample of what Les put on his date pic profile that first attracted Bets:

Sleaze City. You can see it a mile away. And Bets was intrigued enough to respond to that drivel, and then complain about Les later. Sheesh.

I like Bets. But I dunno know. I got a bad feeling that Bets is either up to or Hiding something.

If you’re going to eat at a public place (and not The Fuse where everybody knows you), you should at least take the ears off, Gunther.

Why didn’t they just get lunch at the Trek convention? I’m sure they would sell food there.

If Gunthy blows this date he deserves to be alone! It was basically given to him in his hand. Like in the movie, Uhura and Spock fall for each other here too. I’m happy it wasn’t with Luann or worst, with his sister Borenice. So Gunthy: LOVE LONG AND PROSPER!

“Taco the Town”? So in addition to her other good qualities, she’s a cheap date, too.

Gunther is RHyming. Could it he’s falling (in love with Bets.) But from a fairly nice place like the Fuse to this Taco Bell knock off? Comon Gunther you can do better than that.

I think she really likes Gunther.

I was going to say, “It’s only a comic strip”, but on second thought, I am pleased as punch that the comic and its comments are all about human relationships, getting along with one another, and self-discovery. So much better than the sad politicized arguing that has almost taken over all commentary. It is a fictional world, but “Luann” is about daily life and its many dimensions. Let’s just see where this goes.

Why MD? You are projecting your wish that somehow the nerdy, socially awkward, mother smothered (and she must have had a good reason, wish Gnk would provide it) would find happiness with the poor, little rich girl (no so rich actually) princess. I never saw that personally although I wish the best eventually for both of them. I think people are so sure the rug will be pulled out under this some kind of way that they distrust her. I think that they might have a crises at some point, but they will work through it because gasp!! love. See I am projecting to dude.

This is such a invitation to project our own wishes for our favorite characters, and I choose to be optimistic about the prospects for Gunther with Bets. And it’s interesting that, being all lawyer-like (can’t help it, did it for over 20 years in my first career) Luann is the proximate cause of the meeting of Bets and Gunther, spurred on by Pru. This falls within my belief that Luannverse is basically a force for good, and works through the hilarity ensues fashion (well not with Dirk and Brad, but that turned out okay) in the most Rube Goldberg ways. I have no real concern that Bets is up to something, but I have a feeling that this time maybe (?) there will be an issue, perhaps involving interference by members in Luannverse (Les maybe?) but that Bets and Gunther will work through and get closer together. As to today’s panel, the third panel is a funny play on words. I think the real problem, if there is one, and I can predict something will come up, will be with Gunther trying to get over this wonderful girl short relationship with Les. In the real world we have to realize that the person we are with now, had a life before we were not in. We are with them now, and what we do going forward is what matters. I hope Gunther will be drawn that way PLEASE GnK!!

Oh for crying out loud..everyone is doing forensics on this dumb interaction like it’s world peace negotiations! Let this character have his moment and let’s figure it out later when there’s more to go on. No wonder he’s a social misfit..he’s got ten thousand mothers and older brothers out there micro managing his dating life (or lack thereof).

These two are acting more and more like twins separated at birth. Uhhh… Well… You know what I mean.

Of course she finished her date with Les. Otherwise she would still be with him. It may have been shorter than planned, but it was finished. A first date should be a short meeting in a public place. Safe for all and no long commitment of time.

I wonder how soon Bernice will find her dream man. She deserves a handsome, intelligent man with good social skills as much as Gunther deserves a beautiful intelligent woman. If Gunther ends up with Bets then Bernice should end up with an equally desirable man.

I bet that Greg has been building up to the wordplay in the last panel for awhile now.

I’m so glad Greg has drawn these two away from Mooney, Pitt and the usual backdrops. I hope these two work on being friends for now. I’ll guess that Les started coming on to her (physically) immediately, which she didn’t want; the liar cheater part may have to do with the extent to which the profile matches the person and whether the date is seeing multiple persons at the same time.

Taco Bell (er, Taco Town)….. yum! In terms of a fast food restaurant, Taco Bell and Subway are my favorites when I occasionally indulge in that sort of meal out of convenience. Taco Bell may not have much in the way of “authenticity” or “street cred”…. but it does (to me) taste good. Same for Subway…. and both can be, relatively speaking, healthy choices if careful.

Now, of course, when I have time, inclination, and extra cash, there are a whole host of more “upscale” joints (classy and casual) I can and do occasionally choose. Much of the time, because it is my and my family’s personal favorite, we tend to indulge in one of the several Indian restaurants in my region.

this has promise. it’s never a sure thing for any relationship but there is a commonality. i give it 60-40 in the relationship’s favor.

I see they have slightly different food choices there. It would appear that Bets has a burrito while Gunther has a taco.

A positive side of the Fuse debacle is that it served as an ice-breaker. Bets and Gunther have a place to start a conversation; they can avoid the introductory small talk and start knowing each other beneath the surface. It will be nice to find out if she’s college student and/or a STEM person like Gunther.

As a side note, Greg or someone keeps coming up with very creative names for restaurants. ‘Taco (the) Town’ is great. ‘Kafe Kablooey’ is kind of fun. Maybe they should work with all the contestants on the Food network shows who win money and want to start up their own restaurants or food trucks, and just need that attention-getting name…

Personally I think it is time for Gunther to have a steady girlfriend who would build up his feeling of self worth. For Gunther his self worth in somewhere between the gutter and hell. It is time for Gunther to grow as a person.

I hope this lasts for Gunther. He needs a girlfriend who will help him grow into the intellectual he truly is!
