The current Republican party has a different view of science and who should make scientific decisions. It’s harder work than most people have ever done — to learn how to design experiments to test hypotheses, learn specialized advanced mathematics, learn modern scientific publish techniques, and do the hands-on detail work, etc — to defend a thesis and earn a Ph.D. in science. There are not enough Ph.D. scientists in Congress and 3/4 of those who self-identify as scientists with only undergraduate degrees are Republican.
“There are currently more former car salesmen on the House Science Committee than Ph.D. scientists.”
There are some climate experts that say it’s already too late to positively affect our present condition. At best, we can only hope to keep things from getting worse. This, now, is a real worldwide emergency! Climate change knows no border.
The sheer awfulness of this comment boggles the mind. Every time I think #45’s team can’t get more corrupt, more idiotic, less informed — he once again proves there IS no bottom to his swamp!
“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that ‘my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.’” – Isaac Asimov
If he were still alive, I bet Asimov would amend his statement to read “…especially through our political…”
So wickedly and tragically well done! It is so, so very frightening a time for science and especially climate biology. I miss the former EPA… it was not perfect…. but it was a helluva lot better than what we have now.

The basic Trump philosophy: Find the worst possible person for each job, and appoint him/her.
Trump didn’t invent this. Reagan and the Bushes had pretty much the same strategy. But they at least pretended their nominees were qualified.

Democratic coal miner: Uh-oh! The canary’s dead.
Republican coal miner: Aww, did da poor widdle birdie die? Cry me a river. This stuff isn’t gonna dig itself.

Notice NO comments from Trump Disciples.
Some of them undoubtedly believe Happer — that trying to protect the environment is just like the Holocaust.
