Yes pretend since the Plutocrats, the really rich men, white, smarter than Trump, and generally not seen or spoken of. As long as dark money is used we can never fully trust either our process or all the candidates.
And the pretend precident pretends to know what the pretend pretend precident is pretending to make fun of while he’s NOT pretending to destroy the country with his pretend emergency…he doing it for real!
Seriously, anyone remember when we had Presidents with a sense of humor, Presidents who KNEW that some people would be making fun of them, and could most times laugh along with them, and actually GET THE JOKE…instead of BEING a joke???
A drive-by commenter trying the infamous authoritarian anti-republic line "We are a republic, not a democracy " to assert that a constitutional democratic republic with a government of the people, by the people, and for the people is a BAD idea?
“The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."

Amen, Jen! Unfortunately, some are pretending that it’s not happening.

So, saying anything critical of a “public servant” is now a borderline high crime … that really doesn’t seem very republican( lowercase ‘r’), to me.

We are a republic, not a democracy. We have democratically elected politicians.

Wow! Excellent synopsis, Jen! Thank you!
It is frightening, how the political climate here and even in some other regions feels more and more like 1920s & 1930s Europe.
