Ok, maybe I am just dense, or just don’t use enough automated things in my life. Ok, so the pot is two hours ahead, just run it manually and it will be ready in about 3 minutes. Don’t see the real issue here.

What do you do with that coffee that’s been sitting there for so long? Many of them are reset automatically like on your computer. So the time on them would be correct, and unless you set your alarm you will be an hour late.

Or is it one hour ahead? If she set the clock, she moved it forward one hour. (“spring forward”) So now the time is correct, right? Then she set the timer another hour ahead. So now it’s an hour late. Or is it an hour early? Who can say? It makes my head hurt. This is why people are in favor of scrapping the whole thing.

Is my math wrong? If she set the clock AHEAD the coffee would have been made an hour earlier.

I would dance naked in the streets if this was as big a mess up as I made all year.

Just make a dam pot of coffee!

That wouldn’t be fun. Part of the enjoyment of automatic things is letting them run automatically.

Maybe I have to come back in an hour for the punchline that makes me laugh.

Dang, you guys are tough critics. This is funny. A look at ourselves and our first world problems. Yes the coffee will be made manually. One of the best things about this strip is the way JJ appears able to peek into our lives.

I gave up coffee for Lent several years ago and decided to stay off of it. Now, instead of needing coffee to feel awake and alert, I feel that way naturally. I still miss its taste, though.

Just now thought of this. I’m also saving quite a bit of money.

I lost an hour of sleep. Then I lost an hour manually resetting the 26 clocks that don’t automatically change. Come the Fall I’ll gain back an hour but still lose an hour resetting those same clocks.

We haven’t ‘set’ the coffee maker in 40 years. I don’t even know why it’s a feature. Get up, press start, visit the little boys room, feed the cat and it’s done. Right on time too.

Surly something interesting & funny has got to happening with Gene, Mary Lou & Meg. Or maybe after 30 years of wishing for and fantasizing about a sail boat, now that they actually have one A&J could finally sail someplace! Think of all the fun things that could happen to A&J sailing to the Caribbean. They could run into (maybe literally) Jimmy Buffett eating a hamburger and drinking a margarita. What ever they did it would have to be more interesting that another joke about Luddie sleeping on their bed or their morning coffee.

The morning coffee is one thing I don’t have to worry about. Never have, never will… I can’t even stand the smell of it. Blah and yuck!!

We don’t drink coffee, but if we did it would not be left plugged in overnight due to fear of electric fire – same as we unplug most of the small appliances we do have (including the computers). TVs and Video recorders (Beta, VHS, and DVD) are left plugged in, clocks, and the house lights timer setup are, but that is about it.

Having seen an iron that was plugged in and not turned on during an electric (lightning) storm and got turned on somehow from the electricity in the storm and heated up, we leave a bare minimum of small appliances plugged in. When we go on a trip, even just for a weekend, lots of large appliances are unplugged also – including the clothes washer – the clothes dryer, the stove, and the basement electric heat all have their breakers shut off. Used to do the same with the dishwasher, but it died, we did not bother to replace it – as it is a waste – and it’s breaker is always off.
