I seem to remember reading of at least one culture (Chinese?) where the celebrant gives gifts to their friends and family on their birthday.
When I was a kid, my brothers and I each got one un-birthday present when it was someone else’s birthday. Don’t remember at what age that stopped.
I gave my Mom a bouquet of flowers every year on my birthday as a ‘Thank you’ for having me. She loved them. I wish she were still here so I could continue the tradition.
