Some employer probably actually said that.

Some of them fire you in abstentia. Wen you are either on vacation or the weekend. You just come in and they lower the boom.

After a three week probationary period at JC Penny, a looong time ago, in a gloomy department that took credit payments and returns….

My supervisor said I was doing well… BUT she’d heard me giggling, and once even laughing with a customer (gasp!), when I was behind the cash register.

I was “too cheerful” (!!) and she wanted me to promise to “act more serious” in order to continue my employment.

When I said I had no desire to promise, she said….

“If you refuse to comply, I’ll have to release you from your obligation to work for JC Penny.”

I asked whether I was being terminated.

She said no…. but wished me well in the many exciting opportunities that lay ahead for me now that I was not obligated to JC Penny.

She became completely flustered when I laughed.

Guaranteed this has been said many a time. I’m firmly convinced that HR staff aren’t even human, they’re robots designed to spout the latest corporate buzz-speak. They certainly don’t have a clue when it comes to hiring, they have no ideas when it comes to the job’s requirements, other than what is specifically on paper. True story: my father-in-law worked for one of the high-end clothing stores, and ended up getting let go (the powers that be wanted a younger sales force [other things there but lets not get into it]) He went to another one and was interviewing. The 20-something girl doing the interview asked him, “can you name a time at home or in high school that you had something bad happen, and how did you handle it?” He looked at her and said, “I’ve been out of high school longer than you’ve been alive. I guess we don’t have to go any further.” and walked out.

As late as Dec 20, Lila and Boyd were working at Getgo… when did they get fired from that job and hired back at MetroMart?

Could be worse. At least they don’t have a parrot.

I was cutting the grass when Saturday, I got a telegram delivered. I was terminated. I laugh to. Because I had to to keys to the the shop in my pocket.

This is different. Usually she is terminated for something she did.

The blonde in the strip is definitely the “new HR.” Used to be HR kept things nice between management and employees, ensured a good working environment etc – now they’re just hatchet people.
