I bet Hart and Mastroianni doodled quite a bit back in the day. Doodling is for your own pleasure. That canvas looks like the covers of many of my notebooks and the margins of quite a few homework assignments. (no wacky berries or mushrooms needed)
Nearly every thing around them is artificial. Left by the ones who created them in the first place to survive the Hot House Earth they created. Though whoever is over the waters are still a civilization with high tech in operations as one Sunday a few years ago showed us when one of their warrior robots flew over to hover in front of him.
