The first morning after getting a new dog I let him out in the back yard while I herded the kids off to school. I heard a scratching at the front door. The meter reader left the gate open. The dog was on the front porch waiting to come in.
I had a dog in San Diego that was a real escape artist and I mean a regular Houdini. The last time he got out it was by chewing through the screens at the crawl space (this was an old house). I got a phone call weeks later from animal control in Hawthorne (120 miles)! I told them to keep the sob.
Good thing Elizabeth wasn’t in danger or injured for the past hour, since the only thing her family members did for her when they noticed she wasn’t around was yell her name.
We had two St. Bernards who pushed open a patio door and went for a walk. The neighborhood was a labyrinth, and they couldn’t find their way home, so they just pried open the first unlocked sliding door they found, went in and fell asleep. We got a call from a VERY surprised lady a couple hours later when she found these two mobile carpets in her kitchen!

Yup, you didn’t lose the dog, Mom lost you. Don’t expect any help from the dolts you asked for help either.

Gotta love that “innocent” look he’s giving Lizzie. What a brat!

Just accept this is the way things are, Elisabeth! She’s not going to believe you anyways.

sometimes Moms need to shut up and listen first ( says I – a Mom guilty of occasionally not listening first)

No need to lecture. Elizabeth has already learned to internalize guilt.

Perhaps Ellie should go for the run; it could help that growing caboose I see in the second panel.

I had a feeling, he was back home. And look how innocent, he looks, too! Stinker!

More than once we let the dog out in the back yard, and eventually found her sitting at the front door.

Welcome to Morton’s Fork, Liz: take the chewing-out for what you didn’t do, or defend yourself—and get chewed out for what you did do?

Thank goodness Farley is okay after chasing a cat! That’s why I watch my chihuahua dog like a hawk, never go out without supervision.

So Elizabeth didn’t kill Farley! …Not yet anyway [spoiler]!
