Why do we have to have politicians? What happened to all the good old statesmen? I bet there are some great statesmen and stateswomen out there somewhere to get us out of this mess the politicians have put us in.
Brian, you have exactly nailed what Republican elites want: Government by big, multinational corporations.
Republican rank-and-file absolutely do not understand that in the absence of the government they so fear, the vacuum will be filled by big money.

This is illustrated by the whole health care issue. Republican voters claim they do not want government between them and their doctor. (I don’t either) But they are perfectly happy with someone from Aetna or Blue Cross filling that role. And, of course they hate the idea of anyone getting health care who cannot afford it.

And they are sold on the idea that anything publicly owned is socialist, which is just a gateway drug for communism, of course.
So, we get private education, prisons, libraries, toll roads, ‘national’ parks, and so forth.

They actually believe we will be more free when corporations own everything.
