The thing is Nate has been successful, not due to luck, but due to the confidence he got from believing in the lucky pencil. If he doesn’t have the pencil but believes in himself he would succeed. Of course that wouldn’t be funny so he will never figure this out. the popcorn party was the only truly lucky thing that happened as it was totally out of the range of normal events.

Nate’s good fortune is always fleeting. Nate always loses and that’s is what keeps the readers coming back. They like to see poor Nate losing. Losing spectacularly.

That’s almost ‘battery’ : intentional offensive or harmful touching of another person without their consent. Almost, at the very minimum it’s theft. The cartoonist should be charged for allowing a person of authority to ‘dominate’ a student.
