Start looking for copies of the book now. When she has her own children, she’ll want a copy of her favorite read to me book on the bookshelf in the nursery.
Little Women – I had a children’s version at first, now I have a library of Alcott writings and books about the Alcott family. Also A Child’s Garden of Verses – bought for me the day I was born as it was one of my mom’s favorites. As I went along in addition to the series books – Bobbsey twins, Honey Bunch, Nancy Drew, Rick Brant, Dana Girls, Hardy Boys, etc. also Mama’s Bank account and the Little House Books (I even have the books written later by her daughter about the family.) I can still quote passages from all of them – I think even husband can at this point. I have been to the Alcott home in Concord MA (actually 3 homes of theirs in same, one we could only see from outside as it is not open to the public) and passed her home in Boston also (not open to public either). Even went to her grave – entire family except May Alcott (Amy) buried there – May is buried in Europe where she was living with her husband when she died.

For me it was The Cat in the Hat and Goodnight Moon. Fond memories.
