My grandchildren (ages 4 and 6, w/birthdays coming up soon) just got library cards and are ecstatic. From what my daughter reported, Colorado Springs has some great libraries, with very enthusiastic and helpful people working in them. Also some great stuff besides just books.

Took the bus one day to work while the Jeep was in the shop and brought a book to read. A young lady down the row had a look of exasperation on her face as she seemed desperate to find a charge port for her Kindle or iPad close by. This particular buss was too old to have any. I just smiled and continued reading my book. Sometimes the old ways are best.

Unfortunately, in real life, no one would notice the sign, because their eyes are all glued to their phones.

And not only that, but you don’t end up with piles of books on every horizontal surface and in every corner of your house.

    Libraries make life worth living!

But for how long, I wonder? I took a graduate library sciences class, and it turns out there is a movement among the information-theory types to classify vireo gaming as a form of literacy; this, of course, is akin to classifying group sex as a form of chastity…………..

Some fees apply. The Library is not responsible for squinting or papercuts.

My local library is always very busy. It’s not threatened by lack of use, it’s threatened by lack of funding.
