Maybe if you collect enough coconuts you can lash then together and make… Actually, about all you get is a virgin Pina Colada. Not really good for anything.

Hey, with as much traffic as these comic deserted islands get, just add a gift shop and start charging admission. You’ll make a fortune.

I would like to apologize for commenting in this cartoon. I did not realize this was a cartoon for liberals only and any disagreeing opinion or effort to debate and discuss would label one asa Troll or Trump person. I seldom watch Fox, usually CBS and read USAToday and NBC affiliate for local. BUT it seems there is no room for an Independent person who does not side with Trump but does not side completely and whole-heartedly with the liberals.

My deepest apologies for thinking we could discuss ideas and form new opinions. Once again I am so glad I am Independent. I am economically conservative and socially liberal but that seems beyond the grasp of many. I not aligned with either party as I have seen here that the liberals are as narrow minded as the ultra-conservatives.

Sorry I bothered to contribute with thinking and ideas different than yours.

@sportymonk: unless this is a totally satirical mea culpa, it would seem you sent it to the wrong address. Nothing like you describe on today’s strip or comments. And, just for the record, nobody credits a whinger.

Yeah, they can learn how to juggle three coconuts at one time. That will keep them busy until they eat up more then three. Hopefully, the top of the tree is ok and still producing fruit.

Wrote interpetive signage for a few decades, in hostile environments like desert or high mountain streams and waterfalls, tried to work in “survival” messages. It was interesting how often folks would take those advisories as a challenge to defy- incoming Darwin Awards. Note that all the desert island toons, make “you are here” irrelevant unless they show where you are in the ocean at large, and how screwed you may be.

It’s a comic for pete’s sake; something designed to lighten our day. Why go looking for some cryptic message(s) the author didn’t hint at?

Unless they salvaged either an Axe or a Machete from that wreck, it’s going to take them a week just to get One of those coconuts open.

First, they are going to wear out their jaws gnawing through the tough Fiber coating, then, they are going to need a Big Rock to crack the Inner Shell.

Maybe if they saved a Corkscrew, they can poke a hole in one of the Eyes and drink the coconut milk before they break the thing open.

Kudos to SPORTYMONK for politicizing this inoffensive cartoon in such a tongue-in-cheek manner. One need not apologize for something that they did not or would not do, given the choice. You chose to plant an IED – likecomment to injure liberals and conservatives, apparently because your status as an independent and a pragmatist is dwarfed by two larger groups.

I would just as soon see the dissolution of both the Democratic and Republican parties, in favor of a People’s Coalition, since theoretically ours is a government of, by, and for the people. In reality, whichever party controls a state forms districts designed to maximize majorities to ensure their own re-election. This process of “gerrymandering” has yet to be corrected, even in districts where the Courts have required remedial measures be enacted.

The Electoral College is another institution which is archaic and originally designed to thwart the possibility that “the great unwashed” could post the majority of votes for a candidate that was not acceptable to the whims of the upper class. Only five Presidents have won the popular vote, but lost the Electoral Vote. Some still maintain that JFK would make it six, as he won only 0.17% (approx. 100,000) more popular votes than Nixon; despite carrying fewer states, his Electoral totals were 303-219. An amendment to the Constitution would be required. Perhaps the time is ripe for a Constitutional Convention, which could also attempt to clarify terms like “a well regulated militia”, “high crimes and misdemeanors”, and “thing of value” as related to emoluments.

It is a patriot’s duty to “rage against the machine”. It is always advisable to be prepared to be challenged, and to have remedial proposals ready to counter those who will defend the status quo. If you are pragmatic, you will find yourself to be truly independent, as each issue will determine whether or not you feel it should be conserved, or changed.

@Sportymonk: But, I also apologize to Sportymonk. In taking a second look, I realize I was out of place because this issue has another side that I forgot to consider. One has the right to comment using any terms that gets one’s point across most clearly, so long there is reasonable accuracy (IMO: not exactly the strongest part of your Monday diatribe) and respect for one’s likely audience. And you have no need to humble yourself or to apologize in response to people who disagree.

Thank goodness, the right to one’s opinion still is one major freedom that, so far at least, no demagogue, such as the triple A example now residing at 1600, has been able to prohibit by one of his many foolish ‘executive orders.’

Now, Folks, that’s my opinion, and I am good with it.
