Calvin, they aren’t going to McDonald’s or Burger King but to a nice, swank restaurant. A spitfire like you doesn’t belong in those kind of places.;-D

If Hobbes promises to not kill anyone, Calvin, what do YOU promise not to do during your parents’ time together?

Ah yes, the pause that refreshes (the relationship.)

Calvin, you and Hobbes have plenty of time together without them, and you wouldn’t want it any other way.

Don’t let your Hobbes go, Calvin, he is best you have!!

Because Calvin, it’s about you and that’s why you are not coming. It has to be about us sometimes,.

I have no doubt that I’ve read this story arc previously. But which Rosalyn episode will this be? I can’t remember yet, and I’m enjoying looking forward to finding out. Just like I did last time. And maybe the time before that.

I love Calvin’s combination of annoyance and desperation- the hilarity of “Hobbes promises not to kill anyone” is shown in the sheer absurdity of such a statement (it carries the sentiment that Calvin assumes that Hobbes is ALWAYS in danger of killing someone). And his “Is the movie dirty?” is so accusatory and pleading.

Calvin managed to talk himself out of any better prospects.

The problem is pretty much what you’re doing now, Calvin.

You’re not going anywhere with that attitude!

Look on the bright side, Calvin! Rosalyn will be there for you to torment!!

Calvin promising to be good is like Jesse James promising not to shoot anybody.

Problem? There is no problem, at least for the next three or four hours. Dad took care of that.

There are times when kids are glad to get away from their parents for a while too.

We’d be good. Really. Uh-huh…

It was probably an evening like this that created Calvin in the first place.

Dad wanted a puppy!

My Mom: “If you would learn to behave…..”

My brother and I used to call them “Adult-only movies”.

A tie, when you don’t have to?

I love when the sitter comes.

Mom do not let Calvin talk you into going.

In her delightful book, Please Don’t Eat the Daisies, Jean Kerr made the observation that her children would never have to pay an analyst to discover why their parents didn’t like them. They’d tell them why. Because they were impossible, that’s why. Calvin, take note.

Besides, they’re trying to put Rosalind through college.

Ever since I was in graduate school I’ve had a crush on Rosalyn. I always thought she had a great future as a corporate CEO.
