There is no emergency on the southern border. Illegal border crossings have been steadily declining every year for the last TEN YEARS to the lowest levels in many decades (thanks, Obama!).
Two thirds of undocumented immigrants entered the country LEGALLY with legal, VALID (but temporary) student or tourist visas and when those temporary visas expired, they simply stayed and didn’t go back home. The DEMOCRATIC proposal for $1.3 BILLION dollars in funding includes funding for improved monitoring of visa overstays.
Drugs, contraband and smuggled illegal immigrants who cross the border illegally mostly cross at authorized ports of entry and checkpoints. They simply ride through in cars or in cargo shipment containers, because only a fraction are inspected. They take their chances. The DEMOCRATIC proposal for $1.3 BILLION dollars in funding includes increased inspections of more vehicles and cargo containers entering the country at points of entry.
The Democrats do NOT support “open borders.” Democrats support responsible border control with measures that actually work, not wasting money on increased border fencing, since existing operations started under Obama already have crossings down to the lowest levels in DECADES.
A sure sign Trump is feeling desperate. He knows he can’t negotiate anything with the House Dems because wicked witch of the west Coulter and FOXy frenemies will have their feels hurt.

If we lived in a healthy society, the ensuing indictments would be handled in a serious way — somber congressional hearings, dispassionate court proceedings. Everybody would step back and be sobered by the fact that our very system of law is at stake.But we don’t live in a healthy society and we don’t have a healthy president.Trump doesn’t recognize, understand or respect institutional authority. He only understands personal power. He sees every conflict as a personal conflict in which he destroys or gets destroyed.When the indictments come down, Trump won’t play by the rules. He’ll seek to delegitimize those rules. He’ll seek to delegitimize our legal institutions. He’ll personalize every indictment, slander every prosecutor. He’ll seek to destroy the edifice of law in order to save himself.We know the language he’ll use. It will be the anti-establishment, anti-institutional language that has been coursing through the left and right for the past few decades: The establishment is corrupt, the game is rigged, the elites are out to get you.At that point congressional leaders will face the defining choice of their careers: Where does their ultimate loyalty lie, to the Constitution or to their party?
Trump is doing what he always does, if he can get away with not paying those that work “for him,” he will….. thus the shutdown. Psychopaths have no empathy. It’s a feature in higher proportions in Wall Street than in the general public. It works in business but not in public service, “…to promote the general welfare,” may as well not be in the Constitution.
