An all day fire drill??? We were assembled in our classes, marched out the nearest exits, checked to make certain the building was clear, then marched back in. Ten minutes tops.

Well, at least she went to school! She was so happy, I thought she had skipped for the day…

When I was in 7th grade - I’ve been retired for years, so it was long ago - we had a very long fire drill. The alarms didn’t go off, but another teacher poked his head in the room to say we were having a drill. The fire trucks rolled in while they counted us in the back of the parking lot.

But, had that happened in Paige’s school, she’d be doing cartwheels.

When I was in High School, we would periodically get bomb threats. Sometimes, there would be multiple threats in one day, leaving us standing outside for long periods of time while the police and dogs cleared the building. Occasionally, the threats were linked to exams.

There are two reasons. One, it wasn’t a “fire” drill but was an emergency drill. This would include drills for lockdown, earthquake, tornado, and flood. Two, there was a systemic malfunction in the fire alarm. The alarm has to be turned off for repair, and the fire marshal won’t allow that to happen while school is in session.

The word “Enthused” should have been “enthusiastic.” I remember that from high school grammar. I’m not sure “enthused” is a word. It is used all the time, however.
