    Really? Really? Because they DO realize that pretty much anything you could look up in a local library you can also find on the internet too, right? In fact, for the sort of things they’re implying, the internet would probably be more reliable.

    Besides, discouraging your public from using such informational resources also has the nasty downside of leaving your public misinformed and/or uneducated…and in a lot of ways, that’s worse.

    libraries encourage free thought which is the last thing that those in power want. They don’t want the people to read books like 1984 or fahrenheit 451. those in power want you to follow them without question. Knowledge is power so they don’t want you tp examine other ways to see the world.
