Kids often do that, too. And grown ups.

I remember when a full sized candy bar was 10 cents. And when it was raised to a quarter, although it seemed astronomical, it was still the big bars.

…but the dime bar is much bigger than the nickel bar, and therefore shareable

Aah… The good old days! My dad used to send me to the candy store to get him two packs of cigarettes. He gave me fifty cents — two packs were 45 cents — and I was allowed to get a candy bar with the change.

dogs don’t eat slowly to cherish the experience. They eat fast and cherish the memory (and maybe the chance to get more).

Because they don’t understand the concept of money and because they can.

When I was growing up in the fifties all the candy bars were a nickel except for two which cost a dime: Mounds and Almond Joy (each of which came with two pieces). As I wasn’t that fond of coconut I stuck with my favorites: Three Musketeers, Forever Yours, Nestle’s Crunch or Hershey’s Crackle, Junior Mints, and occasionally Chunky.

Evolution, Charlie Brown. The wolf ancestors of dogs ate quickly to get some food before a bigger wolf could try to get it.

Reminds me a little of the old joke about two guys sharing a can of soda and the first guy lets the second get his half first. The second guy proceeds to finish off the entire can and when the first guy angrily asks why he did that the second guy responds “I couldn’t help it, my half was on the bottom.”
