Empty nest syndrome is hard to ignore when it flairs up.

Not so much anticipation. Doesn’t sound like there’s a party to look forward to either.

Grab a paint brush Arlo, give us all something to look at tomorrow and Saturday ; )

Arlo, waiting for the ball to drop. Not a euphemism.

The best part of New Years is that xmas music and endless hackneyed, banal, vapid xmas movies are over. Thank god for XM radio.

It’s called Christmas let down. Watching a bunch of popsicle-people standing in Times Square waiting for a “ball” to “drop” is not very enthralling.

Then again. There’s always the fireworks from Australia. :o)

And, as we age, our favorite music fades away from all the festivities, until all that’s left is seeing the ball drop, the clocks roll over, perhaps some fireworks, and putting up a new calendar.

I feel the same way and we have no kids. We always enjoy Christmas but I have trouble getting enthusiastic about New Years. Once we get into the New Year I’m fine and can start looking forward to Valentine’s Day and Springtime. I guess the New Year reminds me of resolutions not kept and improvements I need to make in my life—not to mention all that weight I plan to lose and that book I’m going to finally write this year! (Maybe)

Why not make New Year’s Eve all about fine food, good wine, sincere intimacy and flaming romance? With some spicy softcore porn. Works at my place.

One holiday celebrates mythology, and the other brings in a new year.
