Except for the days of Lucas and Havlicek, I was never a big fan of pro basketball. Then, when the ABA and NBA merged and changed a game of finesse to street ball, I was completely turned off.
I might come back if they eliminate the three-point shot, raise the basket three feet, lengthen the court by 20 feet, widen it by 10, eliminate the two (or three, in some cases) step layup, throw out players who deliberately foul to stop a scoring shot, and start enforcing the rules against unnecessary roughness.
I have no sympathy for sports nuts who complain when the TV schedule is followed. I am a fan of sci fi, and back when Enterprise was on, the station always aired it after the sports game. Which meant if the game went into overtime, they would either come to the program I wanted to watch “in progress” or drop it from the schedule altogether. So one I time I turn on the TV to watch Star Trek. The game was almost over. There was a minute and a half on the clock. Because of huddles, time outs, etc., that last “minute and a half” took twenty minutes to play out! So, yeah. I have no sympathy for you sports nuts at all. :P
I am also coming close to boycotting college football, even for the schools that I attended. Four flipping hours for a game that shouldn’t last more than two and a quarter hours? I’ve about had it.
No one is forcing her to sit there and watch the game. Doesn’t she have something to do that she would enjoy? Don’t ruin the game for people who do want to see it.
Our reenactment unit owns an 18th century repro cannon. We used to fire it at an all NYC vs all LI high schools football game – at the end of June! Husband and I did not do this event until he was made commander and then we sort of had to go. Stupid me. I thought “football game is one hour, half time, half hour at most, so we will be cleaning out the cannon and packing up an hour and a half after it starts”. The game ran 3 hours some years. (Most years my job was to stand on the opposite side of the field and chase off people who – believe it or not – decided to walk at the loaded cannon on the other side – photographers were really big at doing this. One year there were only 3 of us there – full crew is 6 – and husband and the other fellow decided that I would do the least harm as the person firing it – so I did so, and did so the following year also.) I am better than husband, at least I could figure out what the game score was.

I have thought many times that basketball games should just last two minutes, since that’s the only part that matters.
And in college basketball, the season in meaningless. All that matters are the playoffs.
Two reasons the sport bores me like no other.
