We honey mooned in Barbados in 1987. Customs was fast and efficient. Our complaint was that the west side hotel and beach were boring (tiny bathtub wavelets). That was easily fixed by a tour through the rain forest and east side shore.
That tour was fantastic - hiked the entire way, donkey laden with barrels of rum punch, dancing girls, grilled flying fish served on banana leaves, bathing in swimming pool sized rocky tide pools with huge waves crashing against the outer rocks, eating coconuts cut fresh from the tree (by a native climber). The tour guide got roaring drunk on the rum punch, but was even more fun in that state (not sure it was good for his family life, however).

I went through Customs in the Bahamas, and it was very fast and efficient. And very 30+ years ago, fwiw.
