George HW Bush was pro-choice until is because politically advantageous to say he was against abortion. As Darsan mentioned, his political ad campaign was reprehensible and pushed US politics on the path downward.

Many say that you shouldn’t speak ill of the deceased. However, a powerful public figure should be reviewed objectively, not canonized.

Remembering back on the 1988 presidential campaign and Lee Atwater? Ok, anybody else remember Willie Horton? If a refresher is needed, I copied this from Wikipedia:

Willie HortonWilliam R. Horton is an American convicted felon who, while serving a life sentence for murder, was the beneficiary of a Massachusetts weekend furlough program. He did not return from his furlough, and ultimately committed assault, armed robbery, and rape before being captured and sentenced in Maryland where he remains incarcerated. The controversy over Horton’s furlough became a major issue in the 1988 presidential campaign.More at WikipediaBorn:William R. Horton, 12, 1951, Chesterfield, South Carolina, U.S.Status:IncarceratedCriminal charge:Murder, assault, armed robbery, rape
