Maybe Poppy Bush was not as blatantly immoral and unethical as the current occupant but he was head of the CIA for 8 years and initiated and approved all that implies. His evil was not as public, but it was still there. He was also a rich, white Republican and guilty of all that implies. And, he puked on a high Japanese (I believe) official.
Compared to the orange menace Bush 41 was a saint. Living through the Bush 41 years, I witnessed his stumbling attempts to mimick the swagger of Reagan and appease the self-proclaimed “moral majority” Reagan married the Republican Party to. But even with his high level of incompetence, he was still respected and admired for his honest efforts. Unlike the orange menace, he was referred to, and acknowledged as, the President of the United States by everyone.
Thanks Ted for pointing this out. Everyone seems to lionize the newly departed and forget who they really were. Of course ANYONE looks like a saint next to what we have now, but that doesn’t make them one.
GHW Bush, our CIA president, imported tons of cocaine to pay for black budget projects. Ollie North was dealing drugs in Reagan’s White House basement when Bush was VP.
Spot on. He was indeed immoral and ruthless in public life but in a gentlemanly way. Here’s a very good article on him by someone who wasn’t and isn’t a fan https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/dec/02/george-hw-bush-family
I read an interview with Robert Scheer published on Alternet last night. He also was an arrogant jerk who stated that the US could win a nuclear war with the USSR.
See ‘Two Party Opera today:“If only we could find the BALANCE where we can acknowledge where a person has FAILED but also HONOR THEIR PLACE in our shared HISTORY”More note of failures here, Ted.
Yah, he was a regular Hitler and should be dragged by hooks through the streets. Unfortunately, people can’t maintain the revolutionary purity we need. I mean it’s that or some crazy notion like people are complex animals capable of having good and bad qualities at the same time.

Maybe to the MAGA heads but not to any historian or rational person. He will probably be remembered as one the most successful con men ever.

Bush 1 as CIA director knew the School of Americas was training torture, rape, blackmail, and murder. But let’s laud his “civility”.

Bush Sr. Also did a lot to try to derail the investigations into Spiro Agnew’s taking bribes in the White House as well has when Agnew was Governor.

This Bush did some things right that eased the re-unification of Germany, but otherwise, “What Ted said”.

May the Bush funeral will give him pause for thought. How will he be remembered? Babes, bombast, and bragging?

But Emperor Bush I was a great Christian. Everything he did was to appease his Christian base.
