There are quite a few genuine progressives in the House and maybe 4 or 5 in the Senate. It’s taken a long time for the situation to get this bad (it was never good) but change starts small and has to start somewhere. I don’t have a great deal of faith in the ‘new’ diverse House but I am willing to give them a chance. Besides, until 2020 there’s not a lot that can be done except prevent the Buffoon-In-Chief from causing too much further damage.
As much as I’ve agreed with your cynicism over the years, Ted, I have to differ on this. At least let them get sworn in and working on legislation before you call them out. Let them show us who they really are before you attack them for who you assume they are. I’m cautiously optimistic with the incoming self described progressives who’ve been making waves. Watching right wingers attack the likes of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib, et cetera while pro-corporate centrists and their supporters demand they stop making waves and “learn” from pro-corporate centrists tells me they’re afraid the freshmen representatives have the potential to shake up the system. That gives me hope.
The speed in which technology has advanced gives the false impression that social advance should be just as fast; but basic human nature doesn’t change. Still, if we broaden our perspective to just my lifetime, you will see a momentous change has occurred. I think many people, including Rall, are too focused on the “now” to appreciate the change or to have hope for the future.
You can enter the halls of power only if you can pass the filtering process first. Voters can only vote for the candidates on the list, which is, the already filtered subset of people. Theoretically, it could be different. But even if you’re on the list, you have to pay for the ads of your campaign and you need to be mentioned positively by some of the leading media. And that does the trick. No money, no chance. So you either are howling with the wolves to get their support or you are very rich and therefore able to pay much for your own campaign. Anyway, has a reason why all POTUS of the last 50 years have been quite well-off people.

The alternative is to go back to just being represented by old white men, so….yeah, even tiny progress is still progress.

So, Ted. Just what kind of government would you like? None? How would you propose installing it?

Just a short comment:
First panel: Things got a little bit better.
Second to fourth panel: A bunch of things are still here and still wrong.
Takeaway(?): Keep working.

It’s pretty cynical, but… I (shamefully) like it.
