When I was around Katie’s age we’d have dinner at my grandma’s but she didn’t serve dessert right away, she didn’t serve it for a few hours after we’d eaten. I’d be like “When are we having dessert?” “In a little while.” I said “It doesn’t seem like a little while, it seems like a big while!” Well, it was banana cream pie.

Keep pushing, and “soon” may become “later”.

When I was a kid, my dad was still working for Ma Bell, which meant he could call the North Pole for free! He’d call and ask for permission to trim our own Christmas tree. Santa always agreed and thanked us for saving him a some time. Considering how many times Daddy “got busy and forgot” I must have started asking him some time shortly after Thanksgiving.

Three soons and a shortly = Next week.

My jobs are to put up the outside decorations, give the tree a fresh cut, set it up, let it drink for a day or two so that it’s hydrated and relaxed, put on the lights and tree topper, and I’m done. It’s up to the rest of the family to finish decorating.

Nope. No trees until the second Sunday of Advent. No tree decorations until the Wednesday after the second Sunday.

When my brothers twins were young and asked when, we would tell them Tuesday. then they got older and figured it out.

If your grandmother was like my grandmother, there wasn’t room for dessert until sometime later.
