This will definitely be the last time that a statewide Florida vote comes down to multiple recounts.

The reenfranchisement of 1.4 million disenfranchised convicted felons will tip the balance from this point forward.

Is it any coincidence that the profile of Florida looks a lot like a handgun?

Another example of the finely tuned machine of Republican government. Remember how Michigan was poisoned by a Republican governor and legislature.

Floridians have great difficulties poking holes it seems. I guess they have problems with their blocks and diapers too.

We need a Constitutional Amendment covering all federal office elections.

Registration closed 90 days before the election. Exceptions only with proof of recent address change. Registrations in person with verification of US citizenship and photo ID. Mail in allowed only for serving military.

No early voting. “Mail in” for serving military ONLY. Failure to provide military ballots to the DOD 60 days prior to election shall result in $1000 fine per ballot per day.

Uniform ballot design nationwide. Provisional ballots must be available at polling place.

Absentee ballots must be on hand at local polling station at the time of closing to be eligible. Unverifiable absentee ballots to be considered “spoiled”.

Photo ID required to vote. Must have cast ballot or be in line at the time the polls close. Paper ballots only, hand counted in front of witnesses by election judges at the polling station beginning the moment the polls close or the last voter in line casts a ballot. Ballots to be tallied and sealed into a single box with the formal count attached inside and out. All ballots of all types to be placed in box. Tally to include counted ballots, number of spoiled ballots and number of provisional ballots. Totals to be reported to Sec State office via phone.

Boxes to be transported to local collection points by at least two election judges from opposing parties. Boxes to be sealed into a single locked and monitored room.

Boxes to be opened ONLY if the total number of provisional ballots exceeds the margin of victory or in the event of a lawful recount.

“No early voting.” and yet “Absentee ballots must be on hand at local polling station at the time of closing to be eligible.” You don’t see just a wee but of contradiction here?

There is no reason to believe that mail-in ballots are safer than early voting – either becomes an issue without proper security. As an election judge, I vote early in case I don’t have time on election day; I shouldn’t have to get an affidavit to do this. My mother uses a mail-in ballot because of vision issues; there are others that find it much easier to vote at home because of various issues. Several states are blocking students from voting by calling their school ID invalid so if they want to be sure they can vote, mail-in may be their best option.

Photo ID is required for registration; there are some that have issues with getting IDs so there are work-arounds that can be handled before election day. ID should not have to be required again on election day. People have been turned away that have voted for years, but don’t have the need for a photo ID – this includes the elderly and disabled, plus I recall a group of NUNS turned away.

All ballots to be hand-counted on election night in front of witnesses is crazy. Andylit, you need to work a couple of elections to see how they really work. My polling place only HAD 2 judges TOTAL, we had to get back-ups that thankfully were available. I was the only judge that could drop the ballots off.

Gross incompetence in Florida needs to be addressed from the top down. Rick Scott committed Medicare fraud yet served two terms as governor. He has mandated that words that refer to climate change cannot be used in any FL government documents. When Jeb Bush was FL governor, he and Katherine Harris (who was working for Bush 43 campaign) removed people from the voter rolls because their names were similar to felons in Texas. When you have shoddy leadership like that, you have problems of many kinds including elections.

I agree with Andylit on “Uniform ballot design nationwide.” but believe we should have a 21st century way to uniquely identify people by their biometrics, not an ID card. Everyone should be automatically registered when they reach voting age. Election Day must be a paid holiday and there should be penalties for not having enough polling place available to allow convenient access.

We absolutely need federal control of ANY election involving federal positions. If the states want to elect their “dogcatchers” by dropping colored stones into a mason jar, that’s fine, but the Federal Government needs to establish guidelines for Federal Elections!

Allowing essentially every county or parrish in the country to set their own standards for voting is patently ridiculous!

And speaking of ridiculous, you can ignore “andylit” and his opinions – as he spouts the republican idiocy (sorry about the redundancy, there). Republicans tend to believe that all electoral problems can be solved by a mix of voter I.D. and other forms of voter disenfranchisement – and he’s right – it would solve the problems – from a republican standpoint! Just always keep firmly in mind that republicans truly believe that unless you are white, male and a property owner, you have no business involving yourself in the electoral process – in other words a return to the era of Washington and Jefferson and Franklin!
