I guess Tom and Ann Eiffel drove there separately in preparation for Tom’s departure and the Ann / Tiffany discussion, although I don’t know why he can’t pick up his own scented oil.
I am not surprised that Tiffany is leaving, after all she hates Ann with good reason, and she was hoping, in vain, to try to talk to her clueless, vacuous, totally useless father, but I agree with MD, something further is about to happen. I hope it does not shatter Tiffany, only makes her stronger in the long run. Ann is a sociopath’s sociopath, and plays for keeps. Oh and the scented oil bit? Tom is a selfish twit. He falls for a sex bomb grifter golddigger for affection, but has none for his daughter. He must hate her, or certainly has a poor way of showing love.
What I really hope is that Tiffany packs up her belongings in her dorm suite, moves whatever funds she has into an account that her father can’t touch, and heads for Hollywood. That’s what she wanted to do in the first place, not go to college. (But with all the fires in California right now, it might be better for her to head for New York and try for a part in a Broadway show. She has at least as much of a chance as Quill…)

But, say this first, “I’ve told you about that woman, and you wouldn’t listen, and this is an ambush, undoubtedly Ann’s idea. I’m gone. Bye” and walk away. And then go with what argythree said…close your account with what is left of your allowance, withdraw from Moony, move in with someone – Crystal, perhaps? Get a job, and I’m sure Nancy and Frank will give you a job. Save up to move to NYC. Or Paris and work for Souffle. Forget dad. He’s a lost cause and his loss. Move forward and live for yourself.
Seriously, what is the point of keeping his face hidden like this? With George Steinbrenner on Seinfeld it was because he was a real person, with Peg Bundy’s mother (and more recently Howard Wolfowitz’s mother) it was for comedic effect. Doctor Doom gets his unmasked face concealed for dramatic purposes (so we don’t see the extent of his disfigurement and have to imagine it ourselves). But I’m not seeing any logical reason in keeping this guy concealed. Especially in the insanely ham-fisted way with the word balloon. At that point it became so distracting it overrode the story.
Evans doing this reminds me of a negative review of the movie Battlefield Earth, which noted that the director did a lot of camera and visual tricks that they’d obviously seen in other films, but clearly just copied the moves without any deeper understanding of why those other directors made those cinemaphotography choices in the first place.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, it is time for Tiffany to shove off. Her situation is getting worse by the minute and you can bet that conniving witch has not had her last word. Get out of this strip while you can, Tiffany!
Maybe you can talk Lio into turning some of his critters loose on evil Ann in the middle of the night.
Tiff as much as you hate Ann and there are plenty of them, You and her have one thing in common y’all both love Tom. So y’all need to find some common ground.
I have a problem rooting for Tiffany here. Tiff’s motives and Ann’s motives are both selfish. I wouldn’t be overjoyed to see Ann get booted out so Tiffany can once again be Daddy’s little princess on another cruise to Paris. Time for a Deus or a Diablo Ex Machina to show up and bring us an inspired plot resolution that’s neither a victory nor a disaster (I still kinda like Ann).
Tiffany was designed as the character-we-love-to-hate. Then she got partially rehabilitated, but without any remediation of her character flaws. Which are roughly the same as Ann’s. So this poses the question, why root for Tiffany against Ann. Of course the drawing style cues the reader: Tiffany is color and life and Anne is blackness and death (I have a problem with coding evil as blackness, but another time). But “scented oil” is another wedge: Tiffany we understand as virginal (somehow!) but Ann must be evil because she’s female and flaunts her sexual agency (I have a problem with that also).
A lot of positive energy flowing from the board for Tiffany. I’m going to go in a dark place, a place so dark I hope Greg never goes. Think back throughout the years. Before he went to Hawaii, who ended up with Aaron Hill? Who steadied with Quill? Who paid for her transgressions in the meals for firefighters scam when it was not her brainchild while TJ got off scott free? In the “Eyes of Zye”, whose part ended up on the cutting room floor? Who ended up as a shut in in her room eating herself almost to death because of her father and Gunther leaving her crying at her door? Greg must certainly be pushing a character to the envelope of all they can stand before they do the unmentionable. Greg has dealt with many subjects here, including Luann having her first period. If Tiffany reaches that point where life is not worth living AND DOES THE UNMENTIONABLE, I’ll never read this strip again.
I just want to throw something out there in response to something someone else said here. During junior high and high school Tiffany was just supposed to be the Alfa b****. It’s a common trope. It helped to highlight Luann’s imperfections (Luann being the relatable every girl).
Things shifted when college rolled around. Delta and Rosa were put on a bus. Gunter was almost put on a bus until G&K thought of something for him.
The characters were all supposed to grow. It’s college so why not change things up, right?
It wasn’t until after high school when we get introduced to this new side of Tiffany. One with unrequited feeling and parental abandonment. It could explain her behaviour back in high school but Greg didn’t want us to feel sorry for her.
My guess is that Tiffany won’t actually leave, Ann will say something tomorrow that forces her to stay. Probably something along blackmail lines, like she has something on her father.

A different tack: OK, step back. What’s the purpose of this early-in-the-week strip? What is being reinforced, introduced or set up for the rest of the week? What new, if anything, have we learned?
1) It confirmed that this “luncheon” was a set-up; a bait and switch. 2) Ann is in complete control of Tom and that control entails a heavy “with benefits” component (we already know from Bern that Ann has moved into Tom’s digs). 3) That the purpose of the bait and switch is not reconciliatory in nature on Ann’s part, but to flaunt her dominance over Tom with the scented oil statement; clearly aimed at Tiffany. 4) Daddy Tom moves ever lower on the humanity scale by allowing this and is now somewhere between “worm” and “pond slime.” 5) Tiffany’s initial reaction is to not be drawn into Ann’s game.
And now my speculation: Ann’s purpose for this bait and switch was to “put Tiff in her place.” To let Tiff know she is the queen bee in this hive and to lay out how Tiffany is to behave if she doesn’t want to be cut out of Tom’s life completely.

The future for Tiff: What Tiff needs right now is a White Knight (WK). They come in a variety of kinds. An emotional WK would provide her with support and a space to separate herself from her problems for a time. Several of the female characters could provide that, Luann, Bern, Dez. Gunther provided that in the recent past. His Knighthood also added the male attention component that Tiffany admitted to be desperate for. I don’t think the Les character is ready to be that kind of WK. That relationship would be toxic IMHO; a GoodNight-hood, so to speak. Tiff would be repeating her relationship with Daddy Tom.
A situational WK would be someone that would eliminate Ann from the picture. OR One that would bridge the emotional gulf between Tiffany and her father. A WK of the first kind would be the easiest to envision and implement. Somebody called the cops; Ann goes to jail or Bolivia or some other scam rich milieu, taking a slug of Daddy cash and jewelry with her. Les blows the whistle on Ann. Al exercises “leverage” on his sister. Ann breaks up with Tom, taking a slug of cash and jewelry with her. You get the picture.
I don’t see a WK of the second kind coming out of Greg or Karen. More likely just a return to the pre-Ann situation of a “poor little rich girl” seeking the father bond she feels she never had. Bonding with daddy would seriously alter Tiff’s role as a character in the strip. She’d be less inclined to compete with Luann for Luann’s male friends. The “old” Tiff would be a more interesting character in the upcoming (assumed) Gunther-Leslie competition.
In any case, Tiffany will NOT exit the restaurant. There is more to be played out here. Still no hint of a ring. I have absolutely no idea where GnK is going with this major, major story line!
What Tom did was terrible and cruel. I suspect it was Ann’s idea and she has something evil in mind. He should have met with Tiffany alone and have a discussion about how the two should find a way to get along. Then he should be with the two for that meeting. He should be staying here.
Sometimes, the best one can hope for in relationships like this is being coolly polite. More likely, they will simply need to stay away from one another. They will never be friends. Tom needs to understand that, and strive to maintain a relationship with his daughter separate from his relationship (such as it is) with Ann.
Tom Farrell is completely besotted by Ann and I obvious why from her “I’ll pick up the scented oil on my way home” comment. She’s completely turned his head. I just hope he’s smart enough to have her sign a pre nup because I, too, see marriage and a baby in the future. Time for Tiff to grow up and see the world and her Daddy as they really are. Her enlightenment has just begun. I don’t think it’s smart for her to walk out without hearing what Ann has to say. Information is power! Just listen and see what you can use against her later.
Who’s going to go first? is a strange question when you are the one who orchestrated the meeting. It’s like asking someone what is this call about…when you called them. And Anne already got her message across loud and clear that she is complete control of Tom.
Exactly the right move. The more you stand up against this sort of bullying, Tiffany, the more you gain real self respect — not the kind that can be gained via glam clothes.
NO! Don’t walk out Tiffany or it will all be on you from your father’s point of view. You will beat Ann but lose your father. Better to sit and say nothing, let Ann think she is winning and then drop the hammer when you have everything like you want them. (Like you almost did before but Ann slipped through)
So here is what I HOPE happens….Tiff’s dad doesn’t actually leave but observes from afar. Ann Eiffel shows her claws, Tiffany tells Ann in no uncertain terms what a cretin she is and goes through the whole laundry list of crap she’s done over the years ALONG with the fact that she alienated Les. Tom Farrel returns, defends Tiffany and drop kicks Ann Eiffel to the CURB. Probably won’t but that would be epic.
Leaving would be a tactical error for Tiff. Tiff should sit down and say “OK. Why did you call this meeting without my father present?” Preferably while surreptitiously turning on her phone recorder. Then eventually get around to talking about Les, the List and the lingerie scam.
I think Ann is too egocentric to want a baby. Don’t understand Tiff’s father.Hope he soon sees the truth. Somehow she needs to be exposed for what she is, unless she changes, and I don’t see that happening.
Tiff’s only mistake was not leaving either before or with her dad. She should have said something like: “Dad, I thought you planned this lunch so YOU AND I could spend time together. If you’re leaving, I have no reason to stay.” Then left at the same time as her dad or better yet, before he had a chance to get away.
Now Ann WILL say something that will make Tiff stay and give her all kinds of ammunition to use against Tiff. Even if Tiff does leave and Ann has to make up a few lies, Tom will believe her because as far as he knows Tiff and Ann were there together. He didn’t believe Tiff before I doubt he’ll start now.
I said this above but I will repeat it. ONCE:I think she should chase after her father, confront him in the parking lot with SPECIFICS, including how he has systematically bought her affection for years, and leave. Let HIM stew in the crap for a while, instead of her.
the more I think about it, I believe that last week, when Tiff was answering Bernie’s questions, she was after all, goofing on her. There really should be a universal sarcasm FONT and an ICON.
After I write this comment, I am going to take this off the My Comics list. All the gaslighting is hitting a little too close to home. I don’t need this negativity in my life.
Les can help here. No, he really can. How? By calling Uncle Al. Remember, Al stepped in this past Spring when Les was about to something Predictably STUPID to get even with Ann.
Leverage. That’s what Tiffany NEEDS over Ann. Al has got that “leverage” not Les. On the other hand, Al will want to do that on the sly because Ann has got stuff on Al, too.
And I’ll bet that if Al, Tiffany and Les get together to plot, Gunther (And Irma) will still be left in the dark…..,
Plot twist. Ann is Tiffany’s long lost Mother (others have said that). We don’t see her Dad’s face, because when we finally do, he’ll look just like … Les!
I would prefer to have Tiff turn on the phone recorder and make a fool of Ole Anne with her own words. Sit and let her threaten you Tiff….. You’ve gotta have evidence.
The story this week is interesting, but I wonder why Ann would want to meet Tiffany for lunch. Ann seems to control Tom so it must be her idea. What would she get out of talking to Tiffany? I don’t see any motivation for Ann to do this.
Even though I, sadly, do not think it is going to be what really happens….. I am QUITE pleased and happy that at least for today it looks like Tiffany is simply going to walk away from Ann.
Again, I suspect that tomorrow it will not be reality.
Tom “Cat” Ferrell is IMO deserving of whatever misfortune he receives from his interactions with Ann. It seems that his actions in regards to Tiffany will never be the real type of father-daughter relationship that Tiffany would want. I still think Tiffany’s best strategy at the moment is to somehow use whatever resources she can at the moment from what she receives from her father….. by depositing as much money as she can in the bank…. in anticipation that in some fashion, he is (or “they” will) be cutting her off…. and then Tiffany should use whatever she has amassed to carefully tide herself over while she figures out what she really should do in regards to setting up the life she wants to pursue.
Now walk away Tiff… fast!!… and catch up w/ your dad. He too is misbehaving and he needs to know it. What father who hasn’t seen his daughter for months or almost a year would leave like that. He knows he’s wrong and cannot face it.
Ann’s purported errand for scented oil might open a plot door. Maybe Tiff will follow Ann and see who she hooks up with. That discovery would be the equivalent of grabbing an atrackers gun during an assault. Tiff would be in charge of any further negotiation.
Don’t dawdle, Tiffany! Escape the vile witch [I really wanted to spell that with a one-letter variance] before she can sink her fangs into your juicy neck (her Vampire’s Kiss would be hidden by your convenient scarf).

The future for Tiff: What Tiff needs right now is a White Knight (WK). They come in a variety of kinds. An emotional WK would provide her with support and a space to separate herself from her problems for a time. Several of the female characters could provide that, Luann, Bern, Dez. Gunther provided that in the recent past. His Knighthood also added the male attention component that Tiffany admitted to be desperate for. I don’t think the Les character is ready to be that kind of WK. That relationship would be toxic IMHO; a GoodNight-hood, so to speak. Tiff would be repeating her relationship with Daddy Tom.
A situational WK would be someone that would eliminate Ann from the picture. OR One that would bridge the emotional gulf between Tiffany and her father. A WK of the first kind would be the easiest to envision and implement. Somebody called the cops; Ann goes to jail or Bolivia or some other scam rich milieu, taking a slug of Daddy cash and jewelry with her. Les blows the whistle on Ann. Al exercises “leverage” on his sister. Ann breaks up with Tom, taking a slug of cash and jewelry with her. You get the picture.
I don’t see a WK of the second kind coming out of Greg or Karen. More likely just a return to the pre-Ann situation of a “poor little rich girl” seeking the father bond she feels she never had. Bonding with daddy would seriously alter Tiff’s role as a character in the strip. She’d be less inclined to compete with Luann for Luann’s male friends. The “old” Tiff would be a more interesting character in the upcoming (assumed) Gunther-Leslie competition.
In any case, Tiffany will NOT exit the restaurant. There is more to be played out here. Still no hint of a ring. I have absolutely no idea where GnK is going with this major, major story line!

What Tom did was terrible and cruel. I suspect it was Ann’s idea and she has something evil in mind. He should have met with Tiffany alone and have a discussion about how the two should find a way to get along. Then he should be with the two for that meeting. He should be staying here.
Sometimes, the best one can hope for in relationships like this is being coolly polite. More likely, they will simply need to stay away from one another. They will never be friends. Tom needs to understand that, and strive to maintain a relationship with his daughter separate from his relationship (such as it is) with Ann.

Tom Farrell is completely besotted by Ann and I obvious why from her “I’ll pick up the scented oil on my way home” comment. She’s completely turned his head. I just hope he’s smart enough to have her sign a pre nup because I, too, see marriage and a baby in the future. Time for Tiff to grow up and see the world and her Daddy as they really are. Her enlightenment has just begun. I don’t think it’s smart for her to walk out without hearing what Ann has to say. Information is power! Just listen and see what you can use against her later.

Who’s going to go first? is a strange question when you are the one who orchestrated the meeting. It’s like asking someone what is this call about…when you called them. And Anne already got her message across loud and clear that she is complete control of Tom.

NO! Don’t walk out Tiffany or it will all be on you from your father’s point of view. You will beat Ann but lose your father. Better to sit and say nothing, let Ann think she is winning and then drop the hammer when you have everything like you want them. (Like you almost did before but Ann slipped through)

So here is what I HOPE happens….Tiff’s dad doesn’t actually leave but observes from afar. Ann Eiffel shows her claws, Tiffany tells Ann in no uncertain terms what a cretin she is and goes through the whole laundry list of crap she’s done over the years ALONG with the fact that she alienated Les. Tom Farrel returns, defends Tiffany and drop kicks Ann Eiffel to the CURB. Probably won’t but that would be epic.

Leaving would be a tactical error for Tiff. Tiff should sit down and say “OK. Why did you call this meeting without my father present?” Preferably while surreptitiously turning on her phone recorder. Then eventually get around to talking about Les, the List and the lingerie scam.

I think Ann is too egocentric to want a baby. Don’t understand Tiff’s father.Hope he soon sees the truth. Somehow she needs to be exposed for what she is, unless she changes, and I don’t see that happening.

Tiff’s only mistake was not leaving either before or with her dad. She should have said something like: “Dad, I thought you planned this lunch so YOU AND I could spend time together. If you’re leaving, I have no reason to stay.” Then left at the same time as her dad or better yet, before he had a chance to get away.
Now Ann WILL say something that will make Tiff stay and give her all kinds of ammunition to use against Tiff. Even if Tiff does leave and Ann has to make up a few lies, Tom will believe her because as far as he knows Tiff and Ann were there together. He didn’t believe Tiff before I doubt he’ll start now.

Les can help here. No, he really can. How? By calling Uncle Al. Remember, Al stepped in this past Spring when Les was about to something Predictably STUPID to get even with Ann.
Leverage. That’s what Tiffany NEEDS over Ann. Al has got that “leverage” not Les. On the other hand, Al will want to do that on the sly because Ann has got stuff on Al, too.
And I’ll bet that if Al, Tiffany and Les get together to plot, Gunther (And Irma) will still be left in the dark…..,

The story this week is interesting, but I wonder why Ann would want to meet Tiffany for lunch. Ann seems to control Tom so it must be her idea. What would she get out of talking to Tiffany? I don’t see any motivation for Ann to do this.

Even though I, sadly, do not think it is going to be what really happens….. I am QUITE pleased and happy that at least for today it looks like Tiffany is simply going to walk away from Ann.
Again, I suspect that tomorrow it will not be reality.
Tom “Cat” Ferrell is IMO deserving of whatever misfortune he receives from his interactions with Ann. It seems that his actions in regards to Tiffany will never be the real type of father-daughter relationship that Tiffany would want. I still think Tiffany’s best strategy at the moment is to somehow use whatever resources she can at the moment from what she receives from her father….. by depositing as much money as she can in the bank…. in anticipation that in some fashion, he is (or “they” will) be cutting her off…. and then Tiffany should use whatever she has amassed to carefully tide herself over while she figures out what she really should do in regards to setting up the life she wants to pursue.

Ann’s purported errand for scented oil might open a plot door. Maybe Tiff will follow Ann and see who she hooks up with. That discovery would be the equivalent of grabbing an atrackers gun during an assault. Tiff would be in charge of any further negotiation.
