Such a sick version of “keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer”…Not that it hasn’t been dabbled in before, but our current administration is making a macabre jamboree of alienating the countries with whom we have more similar values, while embracing those whose values we’ve traditionally found repellant and despicable.
I understand that some politicians (notably the oil-rich Bush family) felt we had to suck up to the Saudis because they were (and still are) sitting on top of the world’s biggest reserves of crude oil. But the US has been self-sufficient oil-wise for several years now and is in fact a net exporter of petroleum. So what’s our excuse for continuing to prostrate ourselves before one of the world’s most repressive, unfree, and intolerant regimes? Just because our own wannabe dictator is fond of absolute tyrants in other countries?
Come on, guys! Saudi Arabia was always like that, even worse. It is the most anti-democrat, anti-liberty, suppressive, dictator-ruled, muslim fanatic country in the world. The sheer possession of the Bible is a capital murder. And SA is the highest-valued ally of the United States for decades now. Think what that says about your honesty, priorities and “values”. And even Obama did not close Guantanamo (and he had two terms of office). For many, it seems incredible how the USA could degrade from the paragon of democracy and the champion of liberty to Trump’s country of unjustice and favoritism. But the way was shorter, than you think.

Yes, an accurate portrayal of the House of Saud, goes back a long time.
