John McEnroe made a career out of throwing fits. In fact, there were rules put in place because of him. The question is whether the penalty fits her actions. Saw a story yesterday that claimed referees are going to boycott Serena Williams because they are afraid; that seems like an over-reaction to me
The only comparative behavior you can find, male or female, is from 35 years ago. This speaks volumes about the continued professionalism of tennis. Maybe we should be criticizing Williams for dragging us back into the lowest levels of the sport.
It wasn’t just about this one incident. It was about the US Open’s history of treating both Williams sisters like crap. The BS “coaching” call was simply the last straw.
