You see on the Monday strip she wanted to set another date with Gunther and he said no, Gunther acted like a jerk and said no. And that why she walk out in today strip.
Two back-to-back dates on one night with two roommates where they both know about the other date. How did Tiffany think this was going to go? Hasn’t she seen the Bachelorette? The guys just spend their time with the girl trash-talking the other guys.
Ok, I’m just gonna say that Gunther deserved it that Tiffany left. Even if Gunther’s heart was in the right place, he should have stopped lecturing her when she was starting to get upset.
Oh GREAT. Nice going Gunther. Le$’ NEXT move after he YELLS at You for 30 minutes , will be to head over to Tiffany’s dorm room and spend the evening with her. THIS TIME, with no time Limit.
Gunther You Poor, Unmitigated, Helpless FOOL. You couldn’t have done any better for the THUG if You cooked dinner and dessert then left Le$ and Tiffany to be alone together and told them to have fun!
On the other hand, there’s something “fishy” about whole set up. Like this whole “train wreck” and Tiffany sudden departure was carefully planned.
Nah. Tiffany wouldn’t do that. Not to Gunther, a Guy she claims she trusts. Or WOULD she……,
Well, this is too bad. Apparently Rosa didn’t teach him anything about manners and when to be quiet. In just a short time Gunther regressed all the way back to his early high school days.
Gunther and Les= The odd couple; chip and dale. Two guys in the same domicile fighting each other regarding style and function. I guarantee you les will go through the roof when he finds out gunthers dorky attitude got his date with tiff canceled. Tiffany is right, he needs to stop lecturing people on their lifestyle and live his own life. I guess he’s trying to help her live a righteous lifestyle and failing at it.
Each had made it known in the past that she was their friend. Suddenly they change their minds and it becomes a competition? They can do that without her.
I think she recognizes a bad situation when she sees one. Too bad, she made the situation. The guys are in competition mode, and that’s never nice to watch.
Y’know, I used to be on Gunther’s side – you know, the whole “pulling for the underdog” thing. I even wanted him and Tiffany to hook up, so she could make him a little more “worldly” – and he, in turn, could have helped her become a bit more studious and less selfish. Now, I just don’t care. Gunther can go pound sand – and Les can beat a hasty exit also. Buh-bye, guys.
In times like these, Gunther, it’s best to let them get their own scars. Hopefully, she’ll still remember how you tried to warn her. Leave things alone. You’ll only make matter worse if you go after her.
Everyone seems to be so fixated on the " romantic" possibilities of this situation—from various different points of view. Arop and think what is it that Tiffany and Les have in common? They both passionately hate Ann Eiffel, although for somewhat different reasons. What if Tiffany was planning to get together with Les on a plan to “take her down” which has been simmering in the background ever since the lingerie parties? Then Gunther invites her to dinner the same evening. They may not want Gunther to know their plans for fear that that he will tell his mother who will tell her new husband Al. who may not approve of their plan, whateveer it is. Perhaps the comments Les has made to Gunther about “dessert” are just made to aggravate him and Les knows which buttons to push. He’s having fun at Gunther’s expense,
when will she realize thisis the same problem going on between her and her dad about Eifle ? She won’t listen to someone trying to warn her , just like him.
As someone observed above, there’s something “fishy” about this whole set up. This whole Gunther/Tiffany/Leslie arc since the “LV non-wedding” has been a one mile per hour train wreck. I wish Greg would get to the point; if there is a point!
This whole strip is beginning to sound like the old “Mary Worth” sob-story, advice to the lovelorn, soap opera comic strip. Which was written by two women by the way. One of which is/was named Karen, too.
Put the guys jealousy aside and look at Tiff. Whether it was intentional or not, she was so wrong to do this to both of them. Neither of them were looking at it as an “evening with pals.”
Just to review. It was not to long ago that Tiffany was bleeding all over these pages for a love interest. Now she’s all puffed up because a guy is jealous of her time. She used to be one of my fave characters in this strip. I wonder if Greg has tired of her.
I think the key part of Tiffany’s statement is “nice time with two pals” because she sees both of them as such. No romantic interest in either…she just wanted to hang out.
I hate the term “friendzone” as if there is something wrong with men and women being friends, and not romantic partners, or trying to be romantic partners, but I will allow that defines what I have been saying for the pendency of this arc, and even before, that Tiffany looks at both of these bozos as friends. They have been nice to her and she appreciates it, that is all. I don’t think there will be a return to the house to “dessert” with Les either. He is a lech (don’t need the full term) but she would have cut him off at the pass. Unless Luannverse is going dark and I doubt it. There are three more regular cycle days left so as I also say, “wait for it”,
At least Tiffany making an exit is, IMO, a good sign. She should not have to put up with Gunther’s attitude here. Now, do not get me wrong, his message was a good one, and in the greater scheme of things, the message was meant to be helpful. But, Gunther’s damn delivery of that message was poor, mean-spirited, focused on HIM, and obviously not well received for those reasons.
I keep comparing pre-Peruvian Gunther and post-Peruvian Gunther….. and while he started growing a beard (never finished it and now even the peach fuzz is gone), had some more sophisticated thoughts and feelings for a while, and hell, even drank 1/2 of a beer (joshing a bit with that one)…. he never finished or further progressed on ANY of those improvements and in fact has regressed…… and he now has a regularly surly attitude to boot.
He has gone from someone to root for to someone who is just aggravating. And, it is painful to watch. I would like Greg to keep Gunther, but have him involved in some arc that is not involving Tiffany, Les, Al, or Irma. Let us see something else from this kid.
Actually Gunther should be congratulated here. He just effectively SABOTAGED Le$’ “plans” for the evening, so kudos to him for winning that very small battle. The bad news is, Gunther just pushed Tiffany closer to Le$ in the “Friends possibly MORE,” Department. So in that, regard, Gunther just lost the “War.”
But that’s also a Good thing. That means that if there’s a clear winner here, the lads need no longer “fight” over Tiffany. And Maybe, Just Maybe, Greg and Karen will some mercy on him for a change and have Gunther interact with his next “love interest” with a considerably more THOUGHTFUL approach.
Provided Gunther survives the coming “beat-down”………,
Gunther, Gunther! ….Even when you’re right…. you’re wrong….
-
Guess that time Tiffany heeded his initial warning and threw Les’ number away was all for naught. But then again, Les’ helping her with Ann Eiffel would tend to undo such things….
1) Tiffany feeling the need to come to Les’ defense
2) Tiffany feeling that she shouldn’t need to come to Les’ defense
3) Gunther feeling compelled to protect Tiffany from Les
4) Tiffany feeling compelled to protect Tiffany from losing two friends, since in her world, they’re at a premium
5) Gunther sighs and turns on Dawson’s Hilly Creek, The One With The Big Tree Near It…. and slowly realizes how comic teen life (as he knows it) imitates dramatic teen art
Yesterday Tiff stated that Les has been “a good friend to her.” Really? When? He certainly wasn’t a good friend in high school, or has miss air-head forgotten that? And the only reason he agreed to help her with her scheme to (try) and take down Ann was because he wanted to get back at his mom. If Ann hadn’t been involved, I doubt Les would have lifted a finger to help Tiff.
Unless she offered him a lot of money. Or another form of payment. :D
An interesting thing is that the same way Tiffany tried to warn Tom Farrel about Ann Eiffel, is the same way Gunther tried to warn Tiffany about Les. And with nearly the same results, given the overall situation on both accounts.
You just know that Gunther is going to be in denial here: he’ll say something like “Tiffany refuses to believe that Les only wants one thing” instead of the truth, that she knows he’s into her like that, and is choosing to hang out with him regardless.Gunther may like Tiff, he may care about her well-being, but it’s clear that he doesn’t have much respect for her. After all, look how little her feelings and opinions matter to him. He hasn’t really listened to a thing she’s said, and keeps trying to dictate her behavior based on his own feelings and preferences. What she wants doesn’t even enter into it. I’m surprised he’s not cutting her meat for her (of course cutting anything on the plate would be pretty difficult since they don’t even have a table to eat at. You ever try eating a full-course meal off your lap?!? I say again: these guys are unforgivably stupid for blowing their entire furniture budget on the rug.)
Well, this puts the final nail in the coffin for any hopes of romance among the college-age kids in Luanniverse. The Evanses have banished them all to one big friendzone.
Tiff and Gunth? Ain’t happening.
Tiff and Les? Ain’t happening.
Lu and Jack? Ain’t happening.
Tara and Jack? Ain’t happening.
Bernice and anybody? Ain’t happening.
Crystal and Knute? (remember them?) They’re just buds
Dez? Ox? Nope. Heartthrob Quill has been disappeared.
Moving up the age ladder a bit, Pru and Ole Smiley have no identfiable love life.
Gunther isn’t wrong to put his foot down; he’s just doing it at the wrong time and with the wrong goal in mind. He should have told Tiffany as soon as he learned about the back-to- back visits that he’s need to cancel because he felt disrespected. And he should have done so not to hurt Les’s chances with Tiffany, but to preserve his own dignity so he won’t get walked all over in the future.
Just a new random thought… Tiff in her low self esteem hasn’t considered that both Gunther and Les are attracted to her. She sees them as “pals” and probably thinks that is how they see her. Her low view of herself explains her actions around Jack, as she might be thinking that in order to attract a guy, she has to “put herself out there/show off” or something like that. (Ironic, when you think of her telling Luann that she is “trying too hard”.) She doesn’t see that her witchy (with a B) diva persona is not attractive, but her vulnerable more relaxed self—her real self is what is attractive.
Think of the times that she has got either of the guys attention. It’s when she has said “I need some help with…” With Gunther, it has been registering for classes, studies, or someone to talk to when she was depressed and gained weight. With Les, it was getting into the lingerie party and taking down Ann.
Sorry, but it’s unreasonable to think it’s all right to make dates with two roommates for the same night. If you think you’re just hanging out with pals, then you should all be having dinner together and dessert together.
Good for Tiffany for leaving! Hopefully Gunther will learn from this and not be so controlling with women in the future. Tiff will probably text Les and they will meet someplace else for their dessert and talk.
Tiffany is nothing but a spoiled selfish fading beauty queen. She set up this stupid back to-back arrangement as if her heavily booked schedule offered no other option. I’ve already been underwhelmed by how she shows up to a friendly meal empty handed as if her marvelous company is a gift in itself. Manners? Ha!Her hardwired habits overrule any common sense or thoughtfulness.Prima Donna Puffy Bunnsa Tiffa’s attitude of scheduling both guys in the same evening is a vestige of the survival skills she learned when “dating” the football team: 7:00 pm left defensive end, 7:15 middle linbacker, 7:30 wide receiver, etc. Let’s see, by 12:30 am she’s done with the quarterback and has the wee hours to disinfect, catch a restorative power nap and get ready for another team the next night. Lovely gal.Hey, Tiff. Go directly to the wood chipper. Do not pass GO, do not collect $200. Which you would blow on donuts anyway. I hope Greg gives you a pizza face so that I can enjoy coloring your new look. Maybe Tea Fanny the apologist can get a new avatar out if it.
Truly a one track mind. No tack No Wit No intuition about women whatsoever. A triple threat and a nightmare for any unsuspecting female. Good luck pal, cause you’re gonna need it in getting a date with anyone.
I see a deeper problem hidden between the panels here. These two have nothing in common (anymore) and couldn’t begin to fill two hours of a dinner date with conversation. Really, the only thing they have in common anymore is Les. Their study-buddy days have disappeared, and I’m sure both of them would rather not bring up “the moment” or their high school days. Gunther could talk about computers (assuming he’s still a computer whiz) and Tiff could talk endlessly about makeup and her newly-regained ego. Or her struggles with her Dad and Ann. Lotsa conversation material there. :(
A mature gentleman could take (or feign) interest in Tiff’s new attempt to revive her modeling career. But that’s way outside of Gunther’s ballpark. Come to think of it, though, Les might just pull it off.
By her own admission, Tiff just wanted a nice time with “two pals.” I didn’t hear any romance in that. And Gunther just ruined their friendship. Where is Rosa when we need her?
Three more installments left this week. What more can possibly go wrong? Will the Gulag inmates try to punch out each other? Will the Pitts police be called?
Did Gunther hang out with any of his male peers growing up? In recent decades, I don’t think they use “lecher” anymore. Gunther seems to be almost saying, “avoid any guy that has sexual interest in you”. And “pounce” (in a whisper) – Oh Dear…
Gunther just can’t let go of his effort to push his own views of Les onto Tiff; he is clueless that anyone could see Les from another angle to the point where he is being insensitive to Tiffany. Yet you have to wonder what if the shoe was on the other foot? e.g. what if Gunther was talking to Tiff about how good a friend Ann Eiffel was to him? Would Tiffany be only trying to get him to see her view of Ann?
‘Pals’ in common do not usually make separate dinner engagements on the same night at the same place. Only game players and manipulators do that. If Gunther had any self respect, he should have canceled the dinner with Tiffany and plan another night.
Totally annoying that she created this situation, then gets to get mad about it. She’s supposed to be savvy about relationships between men and women, but she doesn’t get this one?I’d expect Luann had already read not to create this environment, or asked her friends. Tiffany probably should communicate more with her female friends – and stop trying to turn both of these young men into her “(girl)friends.”

All you can do Gunther is let her make her own mistakes.

So right now there isn’t any male character around Luann’s age that isn’t seriously flawed and basically unfit to be considered a romantic interest.

Truly a one track mind. No tack No Wit No intuition about women whatsoever. A triple threat and a nightmare for any unsuspecting female. Good luck pal, cause you’re gonna need it in getting a date with anyone.

If she wanted to hang with two pals. Why not just have dinner and dessert with both guys. By what she said she clearly knew they lived together.

A lot of comments here state how Gunther “lost” Tiffany. Seems like the lot didn’t see that Tiffany wasn’t trying to be “won.”
