Nike believes in something too. They believe that all people’s lives matter, even the poor and disenfranchised. They believe that a person’s right to walk down the street without being afraid of being shot is more important than whether someone stands or kneels.
Standing for respect is a symbolic act. Being shot in the head for no justifiable reason is a very literal and real act.
After his remarks about John McCain’s being a POW, Trump said he made plenty of sacrifices during the Vietnam War. (Cue the frowny face.) Besides, you know taking a knee is not about protesting the flag or “the troops,” so cut it out already.
Pro-Putin Republican Trumperds have spent a year and half attacking American prestige, credibility, influence, diplomacy, our allies, our intelligence services, our cyber-security and our law enforcement. On the issue of sacrifice and patriotism the Trumperds have lost all credibility. All of it. Every scrap of it.
Black males aged 15-34 were nine times more likely than other Americans to be killed by law enforcement officers in 2016. They were also killed at four times the rate of young white men. Young male Native Americans were six times more likely than Americans at large to be killed by law enforcement. In all, 1,091 citizens were killed by police in 2016.
Overall, including traffic fatalities and other causes, 135 police officers died in the line of duty in 2016. 64 of the 135 fallen officers were killed in firearm-related incidents.
What if the situation were reversed – with white males aged 15-34 killed at nine times the rate of other Americans? One can only speculate, but the likelihood that the ‘protests’ would involve silent, peaceful kneeling is very remote.
Powerful message today regarding the unbelievable character of men and women that pursue a job that could take their life. The tag line Nike blew it missed the mark. Having freedom of “speech” is a right we all have and Nike’s support to believe in something that may sacrifice everything is still admirable if a person is willing to sacrifice everything when they feel that strongly, whether you agree with that person’s belief or not.
Isn’t this the truth. All this grandstanding for a punk who makes tens of millions of dollars a year. Believe in something even if it means sacrificing everything. Puh-leeze. This guy fundamentally hates the USA.
2017 Score Card. Civilians shot by cops 987. Cops shot by civilians 47. Unarmed black men killed 19. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ct-nationwide-police-fatal-shootings-2017-20180106-story.html
The irony here is that kaepernick didn’t sacrifice anything: he got loads of free publicity and a fair amount of money as well. If he hadn’t decided to do his little routine he would have been long forgotten by now. I do find it interesting that he is considered some kind of “hero” who risked something. if they wanted a football player to fill that role, perhaps they could have used the late Pat Tillman.

Ramirez is right; no one really sacrifices anything unless they get killed in the process. Only death counts.

This sanctimony from the guy who refused to honor John McCain’s sacrifices last week.

Vote for Trump even if you have to sacrifice your paycheck, your freedoms and your country. As long as you believe…

I remember when Trump sacrificed everything by volunteering to serve during the Viet Nam War. Wait…what?…..bone spurs?….never mind.

Here’s an article about the Green Beret who advised Kaepernick that kneeling was a respectful way to protest:
