Because they drive to the next county to drink?

What shiny objects would Waddell’s fans smuggle into the stadium? Was it also back in the day you could bring a dog to baseball games before the “no dogs allowed (except service dogs)” rule?

Are counties that sell booze wet counties?

They don’t drink as often and we do in wet counties so they don’t know how to do it well. Disclosure, I haven’t driven drunk for many decades.

Back in the day etc. I always walked to the bar. On those nights, when I could not account for the last $5 spent, my crawling (I assume) home never harmed anybody and I am still alive today.

Rube Waddell was a!so distracted by fire engines. Team mates had to hold him down if a fire engine was near the stadium with the siren blaring.

More traffic fatalities where outlawed; it works the same way for guns.

Cornered the crook; sounds like a lot of bull.

All the best drag strip streets are in dry counties.

They don’t call him “Rube” for nothing! ;o]

Those in dry counties went to other counties for their liquidation or got lubricated at home.

I believe the same is true regarding gun related violence; there is more gun violence in heavily restricted locales than in less restricted ones.

At one time, Iowa was dry on Sundays. Hancock County across the border in Illinois was the same. Adams county to the south allowed Sunday sales, but the town in Adams County near the border (Lima) did not allow taverns. So, the Rainbow Inn was built half-way between Lima and the border. It was packed on Sunday evenings! Also, there was the “South of the Border” to the east and on the south side of the county line road (south of Tioga). Over the years, both burned down.

As with drugs, by making it illegal you create the market.

Maybe in dry countries.car accidents are more likely to be judged as being caused by alcohol. Anyway, I do not have much trust in such statistical reports as most of them are not trustworthy. Meta-studies say, that about 90% of all published statistical material is faulty.

Will Rogers once said that Oklahomans would vote dry as long as they could stagger to the poles(he was an Oklahoman and also, I think that I read, a total abstainer).

They’re also higher in jurisdictions that neighbor ones where you can smoke in a bar, because people are willing to drive further to drink, but still have to get home.

That is because you have to DRIVE to GET ALCOHOL in Dry Counties. You can just walk to the Bar or Liquor Store in Wet Counties.

Many years ago Union County, NC was a dry county and a vote was being held to determine if they wanted to allow alcohol sales. There was a very organized and well financed group trying to keep it dry. The media started trying to figure out who was behind the group and providing all the funding. Turns out the the neighboring Mecklenburg County Liquor Store Operators Association had donated over $200,000 (this was back in the 1970’s) to try and keep Union County dry. FYI – Charlotte is the county seat of Mecklenburg county.
