I brown-bagged it from 5th grade to graduation. At least I knew there’d be something I wanted to eat.

I did both brown bagging and eating at school Never had a problem either way. And spinach pie is better than crow. The feathers get stuck in my teeth.

Spinach pie? Is that really a thing? And is it as disgusting as it sounds?

I’m not a fan of spinach, but I once had a spinach pie with feta cheese that was very good.

In fact, before that pie, I had never thought spinach could be good.

I was a weird child I loved all my veggies including spinach, very few I didn’t like. However, in my house you had to taste it first , I did and said to my mom I didn’t like it and that was fine. My sister and brother “hated” everything which didn’t fly with my mom. She was a wonderful cook (German) and learned American cooking too. I love the German dishes and Italian dishes too my grandma taught her how to make. She was a fantastic cook and OMG she made up gorgeous platters in the summer. So much so the German deli asked her to do it for them too as people would come in and talk about my mom’s platters LOL

Aww kid, you’re lucky!! Spanakopita is amazing, and now I’m craving it. Greek Deli on 19th Street in Washington DC makes the best I’ve had on this side of the Atlantic.
