You can’t be “trapped” into perjury if you just tell the truth.

Anyone who refuses to testify under oath BECAUSE THEY ARE AFRAID OF A “PERJURY TRAP” is basically admitting that they are incapable of telling the truth.

Which is, of course, what Donald Trump’s lawyer John Dowd told Robert Mueller — that he can’t allow Trump to testify under oath because he is not capable of telling the truth. And essentially what Dowd told Trump himself: “You can’t testify. It’s either than or an orange jump suit.”

After watching Kavanaugh perjure himself, do any Trump Disciples believe that Trump is capable of testifying under oath without perjuring himself?

If someone had a super memory, a question like “Have you talked to anyone about Mueller” could lead to many hours of boring testimony.

He’s got a point. I mean, with some people requiring them to be completely truthful has to be an infringement on their religious liberty.

As I understand it, the perjury trap is that opening between Trump’s nose and chin… the one he seems unable to shut.

Anyone who denies the existence of perjury traps for people telling the truth is just naive about lawyers, legalese, and how easily grammar, syntax, and time sequences can be manipulated by competent, but malevolent, attorneys who will do ANYTHING for a victory, including subverting truth to make it appear to be a lie.

The desperation of Mueller and his entrenched Establishment puppetmasters to save their corrupt carcasses is quite indicative of the malevolent intent necessary to resort to such subterfuge. They’re not interested in the truth except as an object to twist and obfuscate in any manner possible to achieve their ends.

    They will not be successful.

Anyone who does not believe that ANYONE can be led into a “perjury trap” has never heard the comment about getting a grand jury to indict a “ham sandwich”. Ask Flynn and Page about a perjury trap.

Good thing I’ve never been sworn in to testify. For one thing, what judge is going to even allow anyone to tell “the whole truth”? (not that I would ever claim to know the whole truth). For another, what is truth?

I just wash my hands of the whole thing.

More seriously, I think I’d change it to “I affirm that I will speak of nothing but what I am convinced are facts”.

Wow. Curious how so many here today think this is a “political cartoon”. It’s called topical humor, folks. When a dopey phrase like “perjury trap” gets thrown out in the zeitgeist, satirists aren’t going to ignore it. That’s a big, juicy target, regardless of which side of the political aisle put it out there.

I don’t believe the bible to be a “holy” book. If I swear on it, then lie, is that perjury? I’d be more inclined to swear on a dictionary… (Do they even use a book anymore?) And what’s with holding up your hand? Is that some binding oath? Come to think of it, attorneys are told not to ask any question to which you don’t already know the answer, so why bother with witnesses at all? Just let the attorneys arm wrestle…

Just curious. I know that perjury is theoretically a crime, but does anybody actually ever get prosecuted for it? It seems to me that “it was an honest mistake” is a pretty good defense against it. It seems that the burden of proof of guilt “beyond a reasonable doubt” is a pretty high bar for a prosecutor to clear.

Wiley writes that this isn’t intended as political. But we know who fits the role portrayed in this comic. Trump’s lawyers ran a role-playing exercise to see how our Leader would talk in a deposition, and the crook lied his face off. So they are determined not to allow him to testify.

Hmmmmmmyou must be kidding! These types of cartoons are similar in effect to tossing eggs at clowns in a circus. Am sure Trump even plots every night about how he intends to flaunt the press with his theatrical nonsense. Try ignoring everything he does or says for a full three day period. BY the end of the third day, he’ll be pulling his hair out….or trying out an extreme combover like never before. You’ll definitely have his attention.

In Switzerland, nobody expects to tell the truth in court. The judges are heaved into the job by their political party secretary, and the most important job of any defendant is to parse the political winds of the day and shape her story accordingly. Nothing to do with the truth. Great riches are acquired this way.
