If she can’t afford to run a reasonably safe and healthy boarding house on what she charges, she needs to look into raising rents or charging seasonal utility fees. I don’t know where this is located, but summer heat can, and HAS, killed.
It’s “lying on the floor,” not “laying on the floor.” Is it a burden to combine correct English with humor? Is it a burden to use cartoons to try to improve rather than to corrupt the language?

A common misconception. Cold air is heavier and therefore it falls and displaces the warmer air causing it to seem to rise.
