@FLASH GORDON: There are lots of people living in the US now who have no memory of a time when the US was not involved in the middle east…

And it ain’t over yet; just moved to another venue. But the Donald and Vlad will resolve it all when they meet later this month. Hell, they might even ask Little Rocket Man for his input.

The US has always been involved in the Middle East one way or another. Fortunes are made and lost, influence waxes and wanes, alliances formed and changed, but we have always been involved and always will be. And we are not alone. Disengagement with the world is a fool’s approach.

I thought it was noteworthy that Trudeau was, even in 1990, trying to place the emphasis on those serving in the military. He was trying to steer the conversation toward the effect of war on those compelled to fight it.

There’s a subtle, little Trudeau touch in the first panel that gave me a laugh. Remember that this was drawn before the age of digital photography.

Notice Rolland’s ABC News cameraman. He’s not packing a professional news camera, but a home video cam. A sly commentary on network news, methinks.

jeffiekins said, “….the U.N. has proven a huge disappointment, both because it’s often misguided, and because it is, thankfully, ineffectual.” Snort! Over the last 50 years, world wide, the number of wars are down, rebellions and civil wars are down, dictatorships are down and democracies are arising, violence is decreasing, world hunger and poverty is down, starvation is down, wealth is up, food production is up, education is up, equality is up, women’s and children’s right are up, diseases are being eradicated, infant mortality is down, people are living longer and healthier lives, and new freedoms are flourishing all because of the efforts of the United Nations. (And that is world wide with only two exceptions: Syria and south east America.)

What Trudeau and many of the leftists don’t realize is the US can no longer sit idly by when this crapola happens. Look back at what happened after WWI. This country became isolationist. When Hitler and Japan started moving other countries, Roosevelt and others knew that sooner or later the US was going to become involved – eventually for its own self-preservation. If not for the US, its very likely Japan would have controlled the Pacific and Asia and Germany would have controlled Europe ( or the Russians would). They then could have squeezed the US into becoming a third world country and, eventually, invaded. While we had our own oil reserves back then, we still imported other materials, rubber being one big import.
