Makes sense to me. We do have remnants of high tech lying around all over the world. One hypothesis is diffusion of a single large global civilization that fell apart and some of their more durable constructions like iron pillars that don’t rust remain, while they disappeared.
Sad to think how much more advanced the world would be today if it hadn’t been for religious fanatics basically banning science for centuries. Sadder to think that it still goes on today.

Agree on the contractors, with one exception. The current one is a jewel. He and crew worth every penny. Correcting many past botches. Once in a milennia one good person appears and restores hope in mankind, if not in contractors.
