Making him the smartest kid on the team, rebelling against the abomination of organized childhood.

My son coached his daughters’ soccer teams. The girls are now older and play the game well, but I recall his instructions to one of his players when they were in the 5-year-old or so age range, “Theresa, stand over there by that flower.”

I’m not sure all the girls have grown out of it yet. I have a picture of him leaning over to talk to a line of girls. One of them is fixing the hair of the girl in front of her.

Kids, you got to love them.

Applies to most any youth sport. Gotta make it fun for them.

I never cared for gym class – lotsa reasons, maybe later. My goal was to look like I didn’t know what was going on, get picked last, and when I had to take my ‘turn’, try to avoid violence. Actually, worked out pretty good – as long as I showed up, they couldn’t flunk me, and that was all I wanted….

Actually, I did that. Defense is sooooo boring. Looked for red clover flowers to suck the nectar.
