We all see what’s coming next. Sawtooth is on his way but will somehow fail to kill Tracy.

At least they don’t have him sculpting his eyebrows yet.

I assume it’s Sawtooth, but doesn’t the last panel imply that Tracy actually talked to Ernie and the bread thing is legit?

Do Tess and Tracy only have one car between them? “Ernie is sending someone… so I’ll be fine” sounds like Tracy saying he’s OK with Tess leaving him without wheels.

It seems the banquet is likely legit, but the pick up will aim to put the bite on Tracy. We’ve seen Tracy in the kitchen making his 3-alarm chili, and he made his sourdough bread for Spirit and friends. There’s more to life than fighting crime. That Tracy will be fine strikes me as an unlikely proposition. Stand by your man, Tess.

You are correct, but what I was trying to do was compare DT to a song always voted as the worst song ever as opposed to a song many consider the best rock song ever.

WIll Tradcy get to his gun in time to prevent “THE BIG BITE” from Saw-baby, or will Tess forget her dry cleaning and come back to even the odds with her pink pistol of doom?

I now way back when Chester Gould first started Tracy Tess worked in her father’s store. But some one help a guy catch up; what is Tess’s job knowaays?

What in the hell has happened to Dick?

Who is ready for a home invasion?!

As others have pointed out, Tess’ comment and Tracy’s reaction are a little weird. Maybe everyone knows it is a setup and Tess is playing her part to sell it? Like they called Ernie’s off-screen and was told it was fake, and everyone is outside of Sawtooth’s surveillance range? That would make sense, but not in a Tracy story since he’s got to get kidnapped so the story goes another month or two.

Sawrtooth: “Now I’ve I’ve got you Tra-… do I smell sourdough bread?”

I keep meaning to mention this, Tess looks GREAT in the 2nd panel. She’s got a whole 1960’s Archie comics thing going there. Was John Lustig the guest artist?

Modern times! Rôle reversal! Tracy (sleeves rolled up) bakes; Tess leaves ’cause “duty calls!” (What case is her agency working? Is it related to anything else going on here?)

How clueless can the Chief of Detectives be? He KNOWS that Sawtooth is out to kill him, yet he blithely takes a vacation day to bake sourdough for a charitable event and even more casually gets set to welcome in someone supposedly sent by Ernie to pick it up. If Ernie and the event are real (and we are not sure of that), it is still likely to the point of certainty that the pick-up man has been waylaid and replaced by Richard Kiel in his Sawtooth persona, and that either Sawtooth will attempt to eat Tracy’s neck or will kidnap him to kill somewhere else….
