The Obama legacy — including his failures — is part of history. That fact cannot be erased. (At least not unless and until a totalitarian government can gather and erase all books, old newspapers, and computer backups. And even then, historical records exist in other countries.)
It is not history attempting to erase Obama’s legacy, but Trump (and Ramirez, et al) desperately trying to erase history. In that way, they’re a lot like ISIS, though they aren’t (yet?) using tanks and bulldozers to destroy all evidence of previous alternative cultures/ways of life. Nor beheadings, yet, though there is that talk of “a Second Amendment solution”.
Trump’s main impact so far has been the chaos in the White House that is damaging the democratic process. The line between the three branches of government is slowly being erased and if we are not careful, we will move towards a dictatorship. It is clear that is what Trump desires. His tax cut for big business was huge and exploded the deficit. The tax cut for the working class was small and is temporary. In any case, most economists agree it will not have much effect on growing the economy.
In the Roman empire, some emperors would try to get rid of all traces of a former emperor, sometimes even having statues recarved to get rid of the former emperor’s face. This purging of the historical record was called “damnatio memoriae”. Stalin tried to do it with Trotsky, as well, and Orwell includes it as a major feature of 1984. Ramirez seems to think it’s a good idea.
Apr 12, 2018 – The average age of Members of the House at the beginning of the 115th Congress was 57.8 years; of Senators, 61.8 years, among the oldest in U.S. history. The overwhelming majority of Members of Congress have a college education. The dominant professions of Members are public service/politics, business, and law.
You can’t really erase taking out Bin Laden, rescuing the U.S. from the Bush Recession, the now 91st consecutive month of the Obama Jobs Recovery, scandal free (other than GOP fabricated ones) governing, respect for our POWs and the disabled, etc.. But you sure would like to, wouldn’t you eh Michael?
Let us be tolerant of Mr. Ramirez, ladies and gentlemen. After all, his newspaper might be the next to be decredentialed without such suckups to the President.
Is this the same “history” that will remember our current president as the biggest bag of vinegar and water to ever soil the stage of American politics?
Obama has only himself to blame. With the exception of the disaster called Obama-Care, all of his “legacy” is composed of executive orders, regulatory overreach and “agreements”.
All of his “accomplishments” were established by fiat, sometimes in violation of existing law. Most of his ideas and goals were deemed to be unacceptable by his own party. They never said that out loud, but, during the 2 years they have absolute control of the government, they failed to act on his agenda.
During 2009-2010, the Dems had the ability to force tax reform, immigration reform, environmental reform and a host of other major changes, into LAW. They didn’t even try. DIDN’T EVEN TRY.
Which speaks volumes about the Obama “legacy”. Most of his ideas failed to meet the test of his own party. Most of his ideas did not merit consideration or effort even when the Dems had filibuster-proof control of the Senate.
Before you whine about Trump reversing Obama’s “accomplishments” give serious thought to why it is so EASY to reverse them.
^Oh, I don’t know. I like the tax cut. I like the pull out for that stupid climate deal. I like the efforts to cut down the unvetted mid east “refugees”. I like the job numbers.I like the manufacturing numbers.I like the exit from TPP,I like the efforts to penalize “sanctuary” cities.I like the efforts to reduce the influx of illegals.I like the increase in military spending.
I appreciate the representation of Cheetolini as having the brainpower, and originality, of the mushy end of a pencil. Any ‘good’ in his and Melanoma’s legacies will be thanks to plagiarism. The rest will simply be what every bully dreams of: the erasure of others, by any means possible.
To dandye and similar commenters, I look at almost all of the political cartoon, including those from the “axis of evil” (Lester, McCoy, Payne and Ramirez)to see what lies and hatred they are spewing, in order to offer true counterpoint, if I have any known facts. I don’t believe in “piling on”, so, if others have addressed the displayed falsehoods, I don’t add any comments. Much the way Dagnabbit, Chev.James, Andylit, et.al., spread their own misinformation, no matter how many times their lies have been disproven.
Hey Rags, since there has been only one post which contests only two of the various points I made, feel free to pile on. There have been a few insults, veiled or otherwise, but none of my “mis-information” has been properly addressed.
In an aside, thank you for your service. I have quite a few friends who will shake your hand and stand you for drinks if you run into them out in the world.
^ Oakstone. While I agree with your sentiments I suggest you go easy on the flags. Nearly all of what the left spews here is emotional blather. Your mouse button will wear out before they do.
On the topic of personal insults, well, as long they aren’t too over the top you need to go with the flow. Things get a little heated on these threads and you should consider cutting a little slack.
For those who toss comments about my intelligence I either ignore or argue against their point (if included). I only flag people he get scatological. That’s just uncalled for.
Cons are very tightly wound. To them when things get “emotional” (passionate) is bad unless they want to attack one who is cool of demeanor an is “liberal” to them then it is (machine like and cold) a bad thing. So you guys as always jump the fence when it suits you. No emotions here just facts in evidence every day. All you have to do is notice it.
The pointy end of the pencil is inserted in the holder’s ear, wiping out brain tissue with each stroke of the eraser (that’s taking out progress made in America since Lincoln, not just Obama)

The median age of the US population is 37.8. In addition the populace is more diverse than congress … hardly an accurate representation.
