I wouldn’t expect France to have much dealings with Putin. Why did we, through the CIA, start a war in Syria? Part of a master plan by our military to change the regimes of 6 Arab nations. So far in every one it has turned out badly. Syria being the most recent bit of regime change our hubristic military and govt have attempted and failing first under Obama and now carried over to Trump. Getting into a war with Russia over Syria is bad to worst. Stupid and witless.
Macron hosted Putin in France very shortly after his election. At that time he called Putin out publicly about Russian interference in the French election. Putin had to stand there and take it. Trump hosted Macron this week, and Macron called him out in his address to Congress. Trump probably didn’t understand what Macron was saying (after all, it was in good English), and so no response. Thus, not nearly as satisfying for Macron as calling Putin out, I’m sure.
