As I understand it, when you eat foods your body is unaccustomed to (particularly spicy stuff), the digestive system can make sounds and do variations on the whole gastroenterological thing it does. This ‘static’ gets picked up by the brain that processes dream imagery. I have no idea how accurate this is, but that seems to be the general consensus.
