Serving “corporate donors “ is a Republican speciality and has always been their business model. While the Democratic Party is far from perfect it’s the GOP that’s driving the country into the ground. Trump is the natural culmination of decades of Republican practice of serving the interests of the ultra wealthy while hoodwinking a large part of the public by championing issues that have a high emotional effect while costing the state little. I have seen the “ Trump is the Democrats’ fault so vote Trump and his party into power again “ position, along with attempts to drive a wedge between the mainstream Democratic Party and the party’s more progressive elements being pushed by some in the Right wing media as a last resort. It sounds too silly to work, but after the 2016 elections, who knows ?
The Democrats have many candidates to choose from, not just Clinton and it is highly unlikely she will be nominated again. She has also said she would not run again. The proposed policies by Democrats support the middle class with middle class tax cuts, support for public education, healthcare, etc.
When you are supporting a personality and not a platform, it’s a cult mentality. Bernie Bros spit out RWNJ talking points about Hillary and did Russia’s work for them.
In other words, Mr. Rall, if the Democrats present your platform and program in every detail as you envision it here, you’ll support them. But gawd forbid that any changes be made at any level or they’re back to dirt and deserve to lose to the likes of Trump. Have you given ANY consideration to the heterogeneous nature of this country? Have you ever thought about justice as conflict (Stuart Hampshire) as an unavoidable consequence of such heterogeneity? Have you considered that just maybe you might not have the universal answers?
Breaking news: Sean Hannity is also one of Michael Cohen’s clients! This means he has been railing about the raid of Michael Cohen’s office without disclosing that he is one of the people who had info in his office! We always knew faux news was in bed with the GOP but come on…
The Dems gave half its base the middle finger and decided to go after Republican votes. NO REPUBLICAN is gonna vote for a Dem. They get torched for the presidency and are now blaming Russians with dank memes for their loss.
The Democrats could ditch their corporate donors. Run on a pro-jobs, healthcare and middle class platform. Push progressive candidates. The Bernie Sanders voters never went anywhere, they weren’t the ones who were not coming out to vote. They could unify the party and everyone could show up to vote, otherwise it doesn’t matter what the Democrat run on. How can you say you are giving the Democrats an affirmative raison d’etre beyond “Not Trump” When your second point is run on a pro-impeachment platform? That IS “Not Trump”

Better to have a pro-business party that’s progressive on social issues ?

If you defeat Trump in 2020, you really don’t need to impeach him, do you?

If Trump does win again, I’m going to write off this country as not worth my time.

A pro-impeachment platform is the definition of running on “not Trump”.

Or they could dig in, find a good candidate and run on issues.

So many Republican rats are leaving the Trumptanic that the inept Dems might win by default.
