    That is some water displacement.

This is why I rarely swim. I always have trouble getting used to the cold water.

Considering the temperature lately, I would actually love to be so cold that I get numb.

When I was young, we’d say, “Hen, rooster, chicken, duck!” and after the last word we’d duck underwater…

Hobbes splashed cold water on Calvin’s idea.

Come to Hawaii. We have a new, natural heating system for our beaches.

I hate dragging out the first ducking. I’m with Hobbes – sudden ducking is preferable.

I suggest Calvin remove his trunks so they don’t suck up the water. He won’t have to worry about his dangling bits either, since the cold water will shrink them right up into his body.

Get all the way in and get it over with! The sooner you do, the sooner your body adjusts to the cold temperature. At least that’s how my body works.

I agree with JPAYNE4040 and M2MM, If you get it over with quickly it doesn’t take that long. On the other hand, I went swimming once in the Swift River (at a popular and crowded swimming hole) in New Hampshire. I dove underwater to get used to it and after about 5 minutes of freezing my (whatever) off I gave up and got out.

Hobbes’s expressions in the last four panels are fantastic.

Looks like Hobbes had more fun jumping in than staying in.

I’m fine getting into cold water up to my (ahem). Then I worry about the WooHoo factor.

Our water heater broke yesterday. I will be experiencing this when I try to shower later.

Hobbes dropped on his head? I wonder who would have done that…

A good friend died walking along the beach last summer. A freak wave drenched him with cold water, and the shock caused a massive heart attack, killing him instantly.
