All the years I watched “private sector”, like my brother, brag about how much more they were making than “feds” for the SAME work, especially as ALL of his “private” pay was for government defense contracts– this old saw has very dull teeth.
Hey, maybe the federal workers will quit and that would leave openings for the unemployed and then the unemployment figures would go down and then the banks would start lending again and then the housing market would rebound and then everyone would have healthcare and then the wars would be over and then….
Hey Pavlov! You failed to mention the good news that corporate profits are at an all time high. Are not we all benefitting from that? It’s the republican ‘trickle down’ theory. Perhaps that would be better described as the ‘$hit floats’ theory.
As a public sector employee I have already not gotten a raise for three years. About time I see some pain in management who on Wall St. are talking mega bonuses again.
eepatte - could be. Who is your 401K invested in? How about your bank. Who do they invest in? Corportions? Oh - is THAT how it works?
As for raises, yup, it stinks. My state gov’t job, union though it may be, is stagnant. Hiring freeze means more work every year, but no more pay. Hopefully my pension is invested in corporations!

I haven’t seen a pay raise in 3 years (private sector). This year might have been the year, don’t know yet!
