I noticed Max at the start he wants some of that love and hug. Holly just accept Phil he showing you he cares.

I had a girl friend with kids. They were more lovable than she was.

I think so too. I think it is a look of pleasant surprise.

I agree that Holly’s surprised, but not unpleasantly so.

However, I remember one exchange from “Cheers” where Dianne was trying to raise Sam’s spirits, after some disappointment or another, by assuring him he’d feel better tomorrow:

“You’re right, tomorrow I WILL feel better. But just for tonight, let me feel bad…”

I’m sure _we_ will find out tomorrow how Holly feels about the hug.

This strip is completely adorable, but the cutest thing about it is Max - I love how he manages to squeeze into the margins of the action. Yay for Max!
