This is spot on. There seems to be a trend, and it is becoming more prevalent, to anthropomorphize pets. I’ve heard people refer to their dog as their “baby” and allow it to run amok for fear its precious little “feelings” could be hurt if they train or discipline it. It seems they’ve been watching too many sitcoms or talking animal cartoons. It’s an ANIMAL, folks. Not a person. It doesn’t have “rights.” That doesn’t mean it’s okay to torture or abuse it (I hate seeing product testing being performed on animals) but human beings do not take a back seat to a pet. Priorities have gotten really twisted when more compassion is shown towards a “homeless pet” than a starving child.
