Actually, it makes perfect sense. The more holes he drills, the faster the water drains out!

Drill the flow-in holes high up on the sides (hard for the water to get in) and the flow-out (drain) holes low on the sides so the water can drain out faster. Yeah, that’s it…

how about an economics parable? cut taxes (drill more holes, give more money to already-wealthy people) and the deficit will go away (they’d spend more money, ‘create more jobs’, only if you give them lots MORE money!) magical, eh?

I like the idea of “venting ones spleen” on Go-Comics. It tells me that people are out there still thinking and are not satisfied with the status-quo!

So, if the holes are high in the front and low in the back and water flows down hill, I would think that the forces of gravity should keep the boat drained and the water rushing out the back would propel the boat forward.

To paraphrase Edison, we may not know the right way yet, but we have eliminated one more possibility.

@ImaginaryFriend, you’re remarkably close, just mixing up cause and effect. The self-bailers on the sailboats I used to race were basically holes that faced aft. As long as the boat was moving forward with enough speed, the suction would draw water out of the boat. True story! Of course, Eddie’s boat would have to be moving all the time to avoid sinking. (Don’t they say that about sharks?)

This site has many strips[Doonesbury, Shoe, Non Sequitur, etc.] that often contain political content. Political comments should be expected. If they annoy you, pass them by.

Ah, a metaphor for the rethug belief that lower taxes increases revenue. Excellent. It also shows the extreme silliness of the people who, despite years of proof showing that rethuglician ideas on taxes do not work, continue to believe the retoric rather than what they can see with their own eyes. Again, an excellent story line. One of your best.

timbob2313. I suppose you believe that the Democrats idea of throwing other people’s money at our social problems work better? Take a look at the Southside of Chicago. They have recieved hundreds of millions of other people’s money over the last couple of decades and the problems have not gotten any better. Chicago is not the only example that could be raised.

Something is going on with the hosts, because there is only 1 new editorial comic today. It isn’t because cartoonists are on vacation, because the AAEC site has 10 new ones. Clay bennett’s “If math was taught like science” is particularly good.

Didn’t Dr. Seuss write a book with a character that drilled holes into a sinking boat so the water would drain out?

I’m pretty sure that’s what Wiley is referencing here.

dtut: holes in the bottom should work, too. As long as the boat’s in motion, just about any hole that’s not facing forward should develop some suction due to the Bernoulli effect. Obviously Eddie’s problem is that he stopped. That’s hardly Mike’s fault… didn’t Eddie read the fine print?

I think you have the answer, sayhowURfeelingB4URgone. Corks float – so if the boat has enough of them plugged into it, problem solved! In theory….

Repubs like to accuse Democrats of trying to fix problems by throwing money at the problems. Instead, the repubs prefer that we throw money at the already extremely wealthy, aka the GOP (Greedy One Percent).

Well, if throwing money at problems doesn’t work, then it should be noted that throwing money at the GOP doesn’t work either. That’s because the GOP believe too much is never enough.

Throwing money at problems can work if it’s done correctly, but reasonable people know that often it isn’t. Throwing money at the GOP never works because they can never get enough and they don’t care how many people die in the process.

Actually every boat has holes in the hull. Some high-up ones are called scuppers and their purpose is to drain water out of the boat. Lower ones are called thru-hulls and they contain various electronic gear to see the bottom of the sea and other important functions. And every sensible sailor carries an assort of D-plugs, generally made of wood and placed next to the appropriately sized thru-hull so that a leak can be immediately plugged. But a captain with holes in his head - no plug for that I’m afraid.

Nope, you’ve ALL got it wrong.

Drilling holes in a boat to make the water run back out is derived from the Three Stooges.

    See how simple it is?

Then again, when it comes to political arguments, we’re all stooges, aren’t we?

Yes, Reverend Quar, we are all stooges when it comes to political arguments. Sadly, the people we elect are stooges when it comes to everything but politics.
