{Off the cartoon’s topic:} – The irritating-for-Progressives center-left “Third Way” is making noises again. {Reminder: “Third Way” is a Bill-Clinton-esque vehicle for kissing-up-to-Wall-Street.} A WaPo article: https://www.washingtonpost.com/?utm_term=.aa417ac554d7 . … A rhyme against BOTH the “Third Way” and the current regime:
The majority want a safe country for themselves and their families with not having to fear their fellow Americans. Does the gun owning minority value a contentious interpretation of the second amendment (the comma or ink spatter) more than the safety and lives of other Americans? We live in a democratic republic where We The People are the government through our representatives. If government is not serving We The People, we need votes not bullets to get representatives that respect us and our needs.
For those who think that cloakrooms armored like Sherman tanks (which the military-industrial complex is probably salivating at the thot of billing for) are any kind of solution to the problem, let the record show that every cloakroom I ever saw in a school had a wide-open doorway (no actual doors, tho) at each end, 1 for “in” and 1 for “out”.
Clearly, individuals are responsible for their actions. But that sort of ducks the question of tools used, doesn’t it? The fertilizer and pressure-cookers were used in a manner never intended for fertilizer and kitchen appliances. However, when screaming about “rights,” what about the rights of citizens to be able to attend a concert, or visit a nightclub, or children going to school without fear of an individual violating his right to bear arms by using such arms to massacre people with an instrument designed exactly for such a purpose? The Constitution also guarantees citizens to be secure in their persons, their houses, their papers from unwarranted intrusion. I think an armor-piercing bullet could be considered intrusive. The Second Amendment is a good one, but there are other amendments against which the Second could, and should, be balanced. Its very language does contain the phrase “well regulated,” a fact usually ignored or glossed over by the NRA.
To me it just makes sense to ban assault weapons and weapons undetectable by metal detectors. Beyond that….STRONG background checks which should certainly include mental/emotional problems. As far as the death penalty is concerned; I tend to favor it’s use but there have been way too many times innocent people have been executed so maybe we should be really sure we have the guilty party; not just someone to blame.
Republicans: We’re only willing to talk about solutions that won’t work, because the Democrats want to enact solutions that do work. (We can’t possibly agree with Liberals, especially when they have the unmitigated gall to be right!) We’ll only consider implementing solutions that work when we can pry them from Democrat’s cold, dead hands!
Here’s an idea : Let’s put wrought iron gates every 10 feet in every hallway that drop down from the ceiling activated by hidden cameras. We’ll trap the perp inside two gates until the SWAT team arrives.
Or .. all the floors could be divided into spinning platforms. Just make the section the perp is standing on start spinning and grab his gun when he loses balance.
I feel these ideas are just as viable as arming teachers and armored closets.
I think the real test will come when those students, who survived the shooting, themselves buy and use weapons because they can. Or will they reject the current gun mania and refuse to buy and/or use any weapons.

GLITCH, DITCH, SWITCH – {1.20 limericks}
We suffer a time during which
we’re governed through many a glitch
which serves the rich
with nary a hitch, -
- while our economy skids to the ditch.
To Progressives we need to switch.

a TUTOR, not a SHOOTER – {rhyme}
A teacher’s role is not as a Shooter, -
- but instead as a sensible common-sense Tutor
while a student develops his brain …
… to analyze thinkings inane
behind the policies of governing adults,
and derive some policies with better results.

Actually quite good, when you get to pick your assumptions you arrive at the conclusion you want.

Clearly the students are considerably smarter — or more honest — than most legislators.

Per the formula, we should try dividing the NRA by zero, just to see what happens.

just require assault rifle owners to be in a well regulated militia—national guard maybe

We already have real gun laws. Sadly, it appears that the people tasked with enforcing those laws have been less than energetic in their duties.

It’s New Math! New-oo-oo Math!
It won’t do you a bit of good to review Math,
It’s so simple,
So very simple,
That only a child can do it!
